I'd give them all another clean to clean off the unclean. :P

Didn't men to jump on you, but that windex crap has gotta stop. :x

The contacts on the game are clean, but it is missing some of the metal connectors.
u need to buy a replacement 72-pin.
He does not need that. All he needs to do is removed the 72-pin connector, bend over a safety pin, and pull each pin towards the centre. You can visibly see the results, because they will stay like that.

When finished, a game can be inserted and played without even having to push down on the mechanism.

Why spend money when you don't need to?

Also, don't use any chemicals when cleaning your carts. No products at all. Simple rubbing alcohol with high content (90%, as said), is perfect and cheap.

If none of those work, I had to remove one of the pins from the IC chip if I remember correctly.

That only keeps it from blinking by disabling the lockout, which is instructions are on that same page I linked. If the other contacts are dirty, you'll still get scrambled garbage or a solid screen.

After bending the contacts a bit I am still having about the same problem. This time, however, a can finally see the game title screen, but every second it will turn off and then on again following the blinking red light.

It's possible I didn't bend the contacts well enough I guess. I will at least try one more game when I can.

If you are at least seeing the title screen, you're making progress. Though if every other pin is clean and making good contact, if the lockout chips don't communicate, the one in the system sends the machine into a reset loop. I'd keep at it a bit, though you could also look on that page I linked for disabling the lockout if you felt up to it. Or if the game pins are clean and you're unable to get it cooperating, maybe just throw in the towel and buy an new socket.

No worries, Hobie - I know you mean well! 8) Don't ever mind being told I'm wrong so long as I can learn something from it - And I certainly don't want to encourage anyone else to make the same mistakes..

You should definitely try disabling that lockout chip. NES have really finicky lockout chips.

Here's a great guide written by CRTGamer

I see talk about cleaning the carts, but did you try cleaning the cart sot? You can bend the pins all you want, but if they're dirty, it's not gonna matter. :D
