Yeah, I don't think this one is going to work out.elmagicochrisg wrote:Aw man, you didn't get that 'read comic books and play your DS' security job a while ago?...
That sucks...
Yeah, my rage made the post a bit confusing. That's definitely what I meant. QT = QuickTrip gas stations, they're fairly nice gas stations (almost like mini-Walmarts honestly) taking off around the midwest. Apparently their registers don't tell you the change automatically so I can see how the test was a big deal to them, although it was just irritating I made a simple repetitive mistake and was just a dollar off on some questions.gtmtnbiker wrote:Sorry to hear that it didn't go well. What kind of job were you applying for? What's "QT"? What do you mean by "...never dealt with change"? Do you mean something like "A man gives you $10.31 for an $8.11 item, how much change should he get back?"
@Luke: Well I'm just saying, compared to others there like that blonde chick, some people were just in street clothes and I went in with a suit (minus the blazer) practically, lol. Now when I went in for that Farmers Insurance pre-employment thing last month I went in with street clothes myself, nice ones albeit with a button up shirt, but everyone was in a suit and tie so I felt like an ass. I figure from here on dressing up to that extent can't hurt anyway.
I appreciate the thoughts though, especially pointing out the fact that they liked my application/resume and want me to call them in 45 days for a second chance. Stress and anxiety has been hard for me to manage this past year or so, and in this case I just certainly looked at all the negatives when in reality a lot of good stuff happened today. I learned from a simple mistake that made complete sense to me afterwards, I had no trouble sleeping last night and was hardly a nervous wreck going into this interview compared to the last few (so practice is improving me here), they offered me another chance, and yeah... I talked to others I trust about things with this and people just said I shouldn't let fear and failure define myself since that's a lie.
There's nothing good to say about the car issues at all though, other than I guess I somehow safely got home. But I'm more than positive highway driving triggered the issue. The other jobs I'm hoping to hear back on are much more local so I don't think I'd have to drive downtown to some corporate staffing places or anything, so hopefully that's no problem.
So I napped on it and I'm feeling a lot better right now. "Tomorrow's worries can come after today" ... or, something like that, lol. Everyday is a new day, so I'll try and make some calls again tomorrow and see if anything else happens. I really can't afford to wait that 45 days, but I just gotta remind myself to see the positives in these experience and not the negatives.
Appreciated as always everyone, thanks for dealing with my diaries. lol

My point being, you have to take each case differently (similar to the earring example). If the amount of time he put into Magic was the problem, she should have mentioned that. What if he was a professional baseball player? Would she complain the same way in that he is constantly traveling and away from home?
As for the "validity" of our hobbies, we all think our own hobbies are valid. Most of our hobbies are non-productive forms of entertainment. At the end of the day, we haven't gained anything but enjoyment out of them. In the case of Jon, he has made money off of his hobby, but regardless, it's something he enjoys and uses as entertainment. If someone wants to find deals or sign up for sweepstakes, they have just "wasted" their day the same as I have just "wasted" my day playing video games. Also, I'm sure people that do that just haven't discovered video games, or else they would be wasting their time much differently.
Yes, if a Magic player spends *all* of their free time playing Magic, they wouldn't be much of a mate. I "play" Magic, in the sense that I play a few games every year. Although she would lump me in the same category as Jon, and write me off. Why would the way someone spends their free time matter if they are enjoying it? Is she so selfish to think that her mate should have no free time to himself?
Also, you mentioned that your games were hidden away in boxes. Does that make it OK that you waste time playing them if you make it a secret? Why would it matter if you display them in order to be honest with who you are? I guess that's how we are different. I am open with what I like, and if other people want to think they are better than me based on that alone, then they can go fuck themselves.
If people have hobbies that go against your beliefs (killing animals or disfigurement, in your examples), then fine, go ahead and rule those people out. Because you already know that you will not share certain beliefs that you deem necessary. But can you honestly say that your beliefs conflict with someone liking a game? Or in the case of the woman who wrote the article, maybe she was simply more worried about what people might think of her if she dated a nerd.
Besides, you're a software developer, and those guys are all stubborn anyway.

I had dogs when I was growing up and I learned that it's the parents who end up doing 99% of the work with a pet. So I count down the days until my kids leave the house and take their cats with them.
The problem I have with sweepstaking is that it's not a good use of your time if you're trying to make a living. Many of these people spend most of their waking day to win money. One woman has won $200,000 in sweepstake prizes. Pretty impressive, huh? But then you find out that she has done this over 20 years which means $10K annually which is below the income level for poverty line. She could make more money flipping burgers at McD.spiritplx wrote: If someone wants to find deals or sign up for sweepstakes, they have just "wasted" their day the same as I have just "wasted" my day playing video games. For me, it's all about neatness. See this thread for pics of my media room where I have some of my consoles/game. As for wasting time, I probably spend 30-60 mins daily average with the games. Mostly it's in short bursts. Yes, my wife views it as a time waster but she lives with it since I'm also a great cook/home improvement person.spiritplx wrote: Also, you mentioned that your games were hidden away in boxes. Yes, that's very well possible. But I wouldn't take offense to that. Just move on to the next person.spiritplx wrote: Or in the case of the woman who wrote the article, maybe she was simply more worried about what people might think of her if she dated a nerd.
