Just picked up a used PSP and have a few questions. I have the PSP 1001
1. I noticed that the battery was not working. Do I need a charger for the PSP or will a new battery suffice?
2. What is the best way to clean the screen?

2. Don't know, but you should invest in a screen protector. See if Hori makes one

Yeah hopefully you got some charger cable, if not I imagine it should be cheap to come by.
I had a weird run in with battery issues myself recently awhile back here, basically it turned out I needed to let the PSP charge literally for 2-3 days. So you might have to give it a lot of time to recharge. If not, maybe take a gamble on eBay for a replacement (just pull out the battery and compare stats/pics I'd say), unless you're willing to spend $40+ for the official ones in stores.

I think there are two official types of batteries for the 1001 psp.
The normal one that comes with it, and a better one with a higher voltage.
my battery is still working fine after about 5 years!
As for the screen..... Is it scratched? is it dusty on the inside? Between the screen and the cover?
Maybe if its on the outside it could be buffed out? Maybe check and see how much it would be to buy a new cover/case?

just a note: the psp battery life sucks. It has a huge discharge rate. If i have it at full and leave it sitting for several days without use. When i go back its at like 60-70% and thats with a new battery. A full charge usually gives me about 3 hours worth of play, maybe.
As people have said get a good charger. I usually just play with it plugged in now. You dont even need the battery in the socket, it will play plugged in without a battery
