I have no clue whether its worth a ten (I would have given San Andreas 9 at minimum though). HOWEVER, I don't know how you couldn't be pumped to play this after that video on ign. That looks incredible! The cover system looks awesome, the cars look awesome, the RPG looks awesome and the multiplayer looks wicked! The graphics look so smooth and detailed - as well as so large in scope (whole city). I haven't seen anything like that on my 360 yet. Crackdown looks like a joke in comparison.
I did the 'trade-in 3 games, get GTAIV free' thing at EB. For Army of Two (got it free from my brother who did graphics for it), Professor Layton and Splinter Cell Double Agent I got this at no cost. If you have some games lying around you'll never play I'd recommend that deal.
Lets Talk About GTA
The graphics are good but they aren't a 10. CoD4 deserves a 10. This deserves a 7 or 8. The cover system doesn't look awesome, it just looks like an upgrade over the running-around-like-an-idiot system they used up til now. Want a great cover system? Play R6 Vegas 2. Even in the text the review admits its not all that great, and in the video you can see he's struggling with it. And you can also tell that the frame rate isn't very good during action. Its better than the PS2 entries, but still doesn't meet current standards.JJJ wrote:I have no clue whether its worth a ten (I would have given San Andreas 9 at minimum though). I just don't think a game should get a perfect score if it has even one confirmed flaw.
I'm slowly realizing that user score averages are much more trustworthy than professional score averages. Right now GTA4's user scores are around 8/10 on gamerankings and metacritic. That could mathematically be used to say 1/5 people dont like that game. But a week from now when all the professional scores are out, you'll be lucky if even 1/30 reviewers disliked it. Why is that?
I have no doubt that GTA4 will be like the others, just a little better. It'll let you do countless things that you've had much more fun doing individually in other games already.

Yeah, but ... no one has played the thing yet. Only the reviewers have played it. Everyone else has to wait. So why is there even a user score posted? I like how Metacritic won't let the yayhoos out there post until the game's been out for at least a day.Mozgus wrote:I'm slowly realizing that user score averages are much more trustworthy than professional score averages. I haven't played many of the GTA games, but I plan on picking this one up this week. I'm getting more into free-form games.
Dude, the game has been leaked to the net for a week now, and the torrents of it have been tearing up trackers like nobody's business. I would estimate that 100,000 people have played it illegally and formed a valid opinion of it, just by looking at the seed and leech counts, guessing the rate of dropoffs and the number of total torrents out there.RadarScope1 wrote:Yeah, but ... no one has played the thing yet. So I'll throw this out there: I absolutely had a blast with III, VC was really fun, and SA was also pretty fun but was kinda too big to enjoy as much as III and VC.
So for anyone that doesn't like GTA, why? And while the FPS of the GTA series has never been solid, I don't think frames per second is a valid arguement point against the enjoyment of the game.
Let's have some well-thought out, reasoned arguements~

I'm old. I have lost interest in a lot of things. I need some kind of Viagra to pique my interest in GTA. A GTA game with just new graphics just ain't gonna cut it for me. GTA III was revolutionary. All the others after it was just more of the same. I just can't eat chicken everyday man. I need something new, something different. Maybe the multiplayer will help in the new GTA IV. Heard it was pretty fun and it's always better to play with an intelligent (hopefully there won't be any foul mouth snotty kids around) person than with a computer. Also, I would like to point out one thing that I like about GTA III so much, the silent protagonist. He made me feel as if I was actually playing that role, doing all that crazy shit. The other games just made me feel like I am controlling a character in the game because he has a name.
It's been released early in the UK. Asda and Tesco (both owned by Walmart interestingly) have both broken street dates. It's been available since Saturday…RadarScope1 wrote:Yeah, but ... no one has played the thing yet. Only the reviewers have played it. Everyone else has to wait.
