What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Here are some that come to my mind:

1. Doing drugs (there are people who think this doesn't cause harm)
2. Collecting knicknacks, junk like that
3. Pageants
4. Extreme body art (piercings, scarification, tattoos, suspension)
5. Extreme sweepstaking
6. Non-casual couponing
7. Lots of pets beyond just 1.

As I mentioned before, the hobby would not be the determining factor. As with most of these extreme cases, it's possible that the person has somewhat of a disorder. I'm sure that would play into their personality, and *that* would factor into my ultimate decision.

2. Who's to determine what "junk" is? Aren't retro games "junk" to the majority of the population?
3. I'm not exactly sure what you mean here, if you are referring to mother's being obsessed with living out their childhood through their children, then see my comment about disorders.
4. I'm sure if a girl has earrings that wouldn't be an issue, right? I guess for scarification/suspension, that seems like it might have some underlying psychological disorder (by the way, I'm not schooled in this field) as well as harm to oneself. Each case would have to be looked at individually. For tattoos, I can't say that this would be an auto "no" for me either.
5. and 6. I'm not even sure what these mean.
7. What are lots of pets? If it's enough to make their living environment unhealthy, I think that falls into harm of oneself/others.

I understand what you are getting at. There are some extreme "hobbies" that people can have, but without fully understanding each person's involvement in each of these hobbies, I would not say that I could rule anyone out specifically for hearing about one of their hobbies. I would need context, such as meeting the person and learning about them as a whole, then make a decision. Am I trying to say that all Magic players would be great to date? Hell no. Some of them that I have met have no job, no motivation and are assholes. Does that mean all Magic players automatically fall into this category? I sure hope not.

I guess what it boils down to is that I believe it's extremely wrong and short sighted to say "Anyone who enjoys/is X is automatically a bad person" (previous disclaimer about X applies).

Ticked: $10 check from gov'men for jury duty... Cheap bastards..!

Smile: It took 15+ years, but I finally avenged my childhood and beat both Double Dragon and Zelda II from start to finish on my original console, (no game genie, no save states, etc..)
Somewhere, in a landfill or stranger's basement far away, my first original Zelda II cart, (case shattered and broken beyond recognition so many years ago after a game save-erasing glitch occured at the Thunderbird battle,) can finally rest in piece....

Smile: Started taking Japanese! And my apartment and roommates this semester are awesome! (i.e. good taste in video games and movies :P ) Also my one roommate already took Japanese 1 so I have someone to talk to I guess. haha

Frown: I need to buy books but I lost my debit card so I had to get it renewed (which will take a week) and in the meantime I need it to buy books. Ugh. I'm having all sorts of financial difficulties at the moment. Too much shit to keep track of on top of my schedule and classes.

I actually had a pretty shitty day today. I found out the train that goes to my house isn't going to be running for the next few months, don't know how I'm coming home for holiday. My fish died, and I have only one pet, I'm pretty attached to him. My friend didn't tell me. He Psuedo-lied to me in the process. I didn't get the job I wanted. and after taking my friends advice to see a fortune teller, she rips me off.

Uggh, stay away from fortune tellers, palm/tarot readers, astrologers in the future. It's all a scam.

You had asked for examples of hobbies that would turn me off to a person. These are some examples that I came up with off the top of my head. I don't think all of them are extreme.
spiritplx wrote: 2. Who's to determine what "junk" is? Aren't retro games "junk" to the majority of the population?
Yes, you're probably right. In my case, my retro games are in two cabinets of my built-ins and in 3 10-gallon storage containers in my casement. They're not out in the open or on some wall. By knick-knacks, I'm referring to someone who collects plates and displays them on a wall. Or they collect Hummel figures, or video game dolls, etc. They don't appeal to me and as such, I will rule those people out if I were single. It's just one of my selection criteria.
spiritplx wrote: 3. I'm not exactly sure what you mean here, if you are referring to mother's being obsessed with living out their childhood through their children, then see my comment about disorders.
I'm referring to women who participate in pageants personally or through their sons/daughters. I have no interest in having a relationship with someone who has this as their hobby.

Simple earrings are fine with me. But you have to realize that there are folks who think scarification, tattoos are fine and is just body art. They think it's normal. Whatever. It doesn't appeal to me and I would not be interested in dating someone with that interest.
spiritplx wrote: 5. and 6. I'm not even sure what these mean.
There are people who enjoy entering sweepstakes/contents. Some of them spend 1-10 hours a day with this hobby. Google "extreme sweepstaking". For couponing, these are people who collect coupons and try to get maximum savings. For instance, they might buy $300 worth of stuff and only spend $30. But if you look at their stuff, they have a lot of free candy and junk food or 120 bottles of shampoo. Yeah, it's a deal but it's not good for you.

More than 1 is too much for me.

I think that woman didn't want to continue dating that guy who was a tournament Magic player because she doesn't like the game and she realizes that he probably spends a lot of time at the game because he's a world champion. I mean, you can't be a world champion at MTG by just playing 1-2 hours a month, right? So I think it's perfectly fine that she no longer has interest in him because he plays tournament-level MTG.
spiritplx wrote: I guess what it boils down to is that I believe it's extremely wrong and short sighted to say "Anyone who enjoys/is X is automatically a bad person" (previous disclaimer about X applies).
I think it's perfectly fine. We're all different people out there with different taste. So if the woman doesn't like MTG players, I'm sure there are some women who idolize MTG players. To add to my list, I would add hunting/trapping/taxidermy as another hobby I'm not interested in. I mean, I wouldn't want to date a woman who wants dead animals mounted on the wall. Yeah, she might be a great person but you can marry/date her, just not me.

The other things aren't your fault, but you're the only one to blame for this. Fortune telling is a business based on lies, so you can never get anything besides "ripped off" from a fortune teller. Also, it sounds to me like you need to find a different friend.

Very ticked; Had another interview today, here's what happened:

Interview and all was going great, I was one of the only guys there that went all out with a tie and everything... then I failed a fucking math test by one fucking point. Then the interviewer proceeded to say "We really like what we saw on your application and resume though, so call us back in 45 days so you can retake the test". That was like another slap in the face to just top it all off. One point ruined this. At least he was kind enough to explain my common mistake, I've never dealt with change and apparently QT computers don't tell you the amount, but he said "count up" when I was counting down, so I was off by a dollar on most questions.

I don't have 45 days to wait and getting back on the highway proved that my car is still fucked up and almost overheated completely. On the way home I saw thin smoke coming up from my hood. When the fluids were fine before I left the staffing building. Either the radiator cracked a bit again (my dad and I put some crazy glue on it) or the cap is bad, when I got home I popped the hood open and it was spraying from the cap or something. I could smell radiator fluid in my car. My car is also stuttering a lot (but not a battery issue) and struggled to take off on the highway so it may as well be falling apart or something.

I think I have anger management building up because I really want to break something right now.

Least there was some hot ass blonde bombshell that went in for the interview as well with street clothes and was nice to look at. Still, ugh. Wow. What a day. What the fuck.
