Post an Unusual Vending Machine
Include a pic if possible, some interesting ones in various countries.

I was in Frys the other day and noticed a Key Making Vending machine. I have seen a dog tag engraver for pets, but first time I saw one of these. It is convenient and probably a novelty to watch. I think probably a good idea to already have a spare key in case the machine jams!

This made me think of other marketing approaches including CoinStar and Cell Phone Recycle machines. I saw an iPod vending machine in Vegas. Anyone remember cigarette vending machines?

I remember Japan is big on Vending Machines. Tons of toys and almost any snack food. Two that stood out were Beer and Coffee in a hot or cold can years before canned liquid coffee became accepted in the U.S.

Can one still buy beer from a vending machine in Japan?

Obviously, the pre-worn panties machines from Japan spring to mind:

The weirdest vending machine I ever saw was the soda machines at Six Flags. $3 per 20 oz soda, it was awful.

This machine will make you a hot-wax wienermobile on the spot.

Woot³ is talking about Art-o-mat

It started in Winston-Salem, NC (woot!) but they're all over the US now and a few over seas.

Yeah! I remember now, it's called an art-o-mat. The first one I saw was at a coffee shop when I lived in Winston Salem. They're made of old cigarette machines.

There's one in Raleigh too, but I forget where. I saw it though.

Thanks for posting this. So thats where the cigarette machines went! I looked at the sample art from the site, the art looks like the size of a cigarette package. I assume made to dispense from the vending machine, some have various trinkets inside.

Yeah, I've never bought one myself but I've seen other people buy them. They come in cigarette-box shaped boxes and vend just like a box of cigarette. Everyone I know didn't get that great of stuff from it, BUT I've seen some really cool things online that's come out of those machines.

edit - I actually only thought of these after you mentioned the cigarette vending machines.
