Have you thought of going old-school?
Kingdom of Loathing -- a very off-the-wall, tongue-in-cheek, non-sequiter, and just down-right zany HTML/PHP-based MMORPG.
Urban Dead -- another HTML/PHP-based MMORPG, relies heavily on meta-gaming. Visit the Wiki, pick a group, and coordinate on their boards.
Nestalgia -- a relatively new MMORPG, requires a download to get it going and it seems to still be in its Beta stages.
I'm Looking for Some RPGs/MMOs to Play.

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

I never really got into the old school RPGs. I kind of missed the whole 2D RPG era.pakopako wrote:Have you thought of going old-school?

The Neverwinter Nights games were released on the Mac, though not all the expansions. Dragon Age was as well.
NWN can be played multiplayer on a hosted server. A player can act as a DM and such. There are also tons of modules to play if you want. NWN2 less so, though the first expansion for that (Mask of the Betrayer) was highly regarded when it came out. It actually picks up on the storyline from the base game, but it takes a relatively formulaic plot and makes it a fair bit more unique...I think it takes some messing with to get running on the Mac, manually importing files/etc. The two of them combined technically make for a rather epic story.
Dragon Age is good as well. Like the NWN games, it's a bit more generic feeling than KoTOR or some of Bioware's other titles, mostly due to determining very little about the character you play.
To a point, Mass Effect is what Bioware came up with to continue doing KoTOR style games without the Star Wars license. Dragon Age is what they came up with to use instead of the Dungeons and Dragons license.
