Recommend some free but not horrible mmorpg?

Post by hurrito »

I feel like wasting my life some more without breaking bank. My one friend wants me to play Maplestory, but... i haven't touched that game since i was 14, and in all honesty a little scared to. Any suggestions?

You know, the free MMOs are actually the most expensive games you could play. That's why they are growing in popularity.

"Free to play" is not completely correct. Sure, you can try the game out for free. But if you decide to actually play it, you are pretty much forced to spend real money. If you don't spend money, you will be weak and pathetic compared to everyone else.

These types of games are designed in a way to get you to want to spend real money. Generally speaking, players of "free" games spend much more than players of games with monthly fees.

So not only are the free games actually way more expensive, it also negatively affects the game itself. Your strength in a game should be based on your skill level and the amount of time you invested into it. However with "free" games, the most important thing is how much money you have in real life. The best player is the richest player. I think that's pretty horrible.

I played a "free" MMO called Dungeon Fighter Online. I thought it was an extremely fun game. The gameplay itself is very good. However, the cash shop ruins it. The more money you spend on the game, the stronger you become. Real money is more important than actually playing the game! I got fed up with it and quit. It's really a shame.

Diablo III looks like it will be a fun game, but it will have an auction house that uses real money, built directly into the game. In other words, real money is more important than actual player skill. That's fucked up. Even if I wanted to play Diablo III, that completely ruins it.

I hate the direction MMOs are going now. There is no point to it. I have my eye on Phantasy Star Online 2, but it may end up the same way.

Pretty sure Imagine is free free.

Also, if you ever had the PSO bug (I still do) You can play Blue Burst online for free.
