Need help installing Grim Fandango

Post by alienjesus »

So I got hold of a copy of Grim Fandango, and I've been looking forward to playing it. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to make it work with my stupid Vista operating system.

I insert the disc, it reads and offers me the usual Autorun or view files from folder option. When I click autorun, it brings up a menu where I can click to Install Grim Fandango. The usual vista box appears asking me to give the installer permission to continue, and I do so, and then.....nothing.

This isn't the only game I've had this problem with either. I can't get my copies of Sam and Max season 1-3 to install from disc either, the exact same thing happens. Any help is appreciated.

Did you try running it in compatibility mode?

Yup. It's sorted now though thanks. For some reason it just took 40 minutes for it to start installing. It randomly popped up a while after I asked the question here and started installing.

Very odd.

I've heard bleak things about Vista.

Weird, I tried to install it on vista a few months back and had the same thing but didn't wait for it to start. Maybe I'll give it another go seeing as it doesn't seem like it's coming to steam any time soon.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Yeah, I was surprised to see it pop up too, I had given up. But I left the disc in, and then quite some time after I clicked install it started - at least 30 minutes, probably more.

Gonna try installing Sam and Max Season 2 the same way later.

Install Win7, don't look back.
