Video Games & Drug Use

Post by Weekend_Warrior »

I kinda hate to start a thread like this because I don't wish to advocate or glamorize drug use.

But I'm curious if anyone is willing to share any of their thoughts, opinions or personal experiences regarding the use of drugs - namely marijuana and psychedelics such as LSD, mushrooms or salvia... while playing/enjoying video games?

I haven't touched any drugs myself in a long time. But I can say that back in high school I used to smoke a lot of pot with my friends and then play games like Jet Moto and Twisted Metal on the PS1, as well as Virtua Fighter 2 on the Saturn.

Honestly, I don't think marijuana made me any better at gaming nor did it create a "more enjoyable experience" for me personally. But it did help me focus a lot more, which actually was good because I suffer from A.D.D.

I never tried LSD. But I did do mushrooms, opium, and salvia. Never played any games while on any of those, but I can imagine that they would have been pretty crazy if I had. Maybe even too much to handle.

Ya know, I have to admit... when I heard that "Child of Eden" was coming to the PS3 with Move and 3D capabilities, one of my first thoughts was how incredible that might be on some "psychedelics." 8)

I drunk game all the time....

Honestly gaming on mushrooms is pretty awesome. Im always way more into the game and notice tons of little things I never noticed before.

My funniest was in gta4 getting a 6 star wanted level and just joy riding. Stupid cops are hilarious. That game always glitches up with 6 stars so I cried laughing when a few cop cars fell out the sky.

Ahh good times

Haven't tested out too much but a year or two I ingested some mushrooms and played WoW . I was in borean tundra and the grass kept changing colors . slowly. but noticable. they were all dark shades of like blue/purple/red

whenever I am on a psychadelic tho I don't really have the patience for technology.. i usually ditch my phone and other electronics..

sometimes watch tv..

I don't really do drugs, but I love to play games when I'm high. At least lately I have a bit of a short attention span, so when I smoke, I always take advantage of the opportunity to play a game that I normally wouldn't be playing. Such as really old classic games with graphics that would normally put me off. Or RPGs, I don't really have the patience for those these days because of level grinding etc. but when I'm high, that doesn't bother me.
And I love to play racing games, but I suck beyond measure when I'm high. Obviously, that doesn't detract from the experience.

I spent a lot of my life smoking and playing games, its a good combo. Since having a kid and getting a job and quitting smoking (pretty much) I have been focusing more heavily on collecting games, but I find I have almost zero time for playing now. I'm still battling with trying to enjoy gaming sans bong. It just puts you in the zone for it. But its like anything when it comes to addiction, you need to stop and rethink pretty much everything you do that is associated with the substance you're on. I still don't think I could have a serious stab at Smash TV without it.

As to psychedelics, screen based media is a sure fire way to suck the fun out of the experience. Jesus, now I think about it, the amount of all night Tekken 4 sessions I had on pills was... embarrassing? A friend of mine owned everyone at that game, completely unstoppable, but he was happy to indulge me in as many team battles as I could stomach.

I rarely do drugs but I've played GTA games a few times while high before. Good times.
