paypal questions

Post by ubelaffe »

So, I'm trying to sell something, but I don't want to get ripped off. Am I going to be safe using paypal? Can I get ripped off somehow if I've received the funds before I ship something? I'm kind of new to the whole selling thing and the recipient is on the other end of the country, so it's not exactly person-to-person-able. All comments and help appreciated.

if he pays for the item plus shipping first then that should be fine, as long as you give him to reason to say you lied. about the item's or the condition thereof.

Make sure you use some sort of tracking on the package, too. (Delivery confirmation counts).

so as long as I use paypal and some sort of tracked shipping with verified delivery, I should be sound as a pound, right?

Thousands of people do it every day. Caveat emptor, though.

Stay far away from Paypal. You're better off excepting USPS MOs (in the US of course!) because the post office will cash them for no fee, and if they are fake they can't reclaim the money (like your bank would if you deposited a fake MO, cashiers check, etc).

If you must accept Paypal, and for most items you need it to sell your items, remember two things:

1) Less than $250, you need to ship within 7 days I believe (you should be anyways) and you MUST HAVE ONLINE PROOF of delivery. On the Paypal payment page it will say whether or not the item is available for seller protection (if its not, refund and don't ship), you must ship to that address and have proof as above.

2) If $250 or over, in ADDITION to above you need ONLINE SIGNATURE confirmation (I would recommend adult sig, too).

Even if you do those above, you can still be screwed, but that will help the most.
