I feel like I'd go as far as to say that Mulholland is my favorite Lynch film.

...and yet it STILL cuts a ton of stuff out.

I've been itching to watch that again actually.

Watched Pitch Black again Thursday since I got the Riddick trilogy DVD set super cheap recently. I think it is a pretty good Sci-fi horror movie. For the people that don't make it, it is rarely because of a 'trip and fall' moment.

I also watched the animated Dark Fury short as well. Absolutely terrible. Dumb plot. Cheesy villainess and aliens in the 'gladiator' scene. I've heard the second movie isn't so great either, but considering I got the set for the price of a used single DVD anyway, even if Pitch Black is the only worthwhile bit it's ok.

Pitch Black is awesome stuff, really cool sci-fi flick. As for the others... the less said about them the better.

Never saw the animated one. But I love both Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. And what's great about them is that they both have such a different flavor to them. Pitch Black is totally a monster movie in the same vein as Alien. And Chronicles of Riddick is a sci-fi epic. Both done so well, too.

I thought The Iron Giant was the coolest movie ever when I was 7. I could have watched that thing every day.

Pitch Black is awesome stuff, really cool sci-fi flick. As for the others... the less said about them the better.

Loved Pitch Black when it came on Sci-Fi one day several years ago. I'd heard of it but never watched it, and when we watched it, we enjoyed it a lot. Bought the DVD, the whole shebang. So, naturally I was excited for the Riddick movie, and it was a little disappointing, but I thought it was interesting and still somewhat enjoyable. It showed that Riddick's universe was a lot larger than what was shown in Pitch Black.

Basically, you can look at it as analogous to the Ender's Game series of novels - kinda.

BEFORE I'M MURDERED - PLEASE LET ME EXPLAIN.

Now, I'm not saying Pitch Black/Riddick is as good or better than Orson Scott Card's classic Sci-Fi book and/or series, Ender's Game and the Ender Saga. But (and this is taken from OSC's mouth) Ender's Game was written because he (OSC) wanted to tell a the story that is contained in the final 3 (and forth coming 4th) books, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide and Children of the mind. Card said that he had to set up his universe first, which he did with Ender's Game.

I don't know if anyone has read past Ender's Game or Ender's Shadow, but Ender's Game is pretty much a self contained story. You can read the book and enjoy it and leave it at that. It ends properly, no cliffhangers, nothing. You don't NEED to read the following novels, or the Shadow series. But the second Ender book, "Speaker for the Dead" expands Ender's universe immensely and an entirely different - yet related - story is told starting with that book, and that story could not have been told (properly) without Ender's Game. Enders Game is the foundation upon which the Ender Saga is based.

So in effect, what I'm saying is, "The Chronicles of Riddick" - while not as good as Pitch Black - just expands on the universe set up by Pitch Black, even though PB is basically a foundation for the Riddick Universe. So if they make any more Riddick movies, they'll continue the story started in Chronicles, rather than continue Pitch Black.

So I'm thinking we'll get a lot more of the story with the Necromongers, Furians and so on. I think it's a cool universe and I want to know more. I just have to suffer the interim movie, lol.
