"Processed" is an unreasonably broad term, I think, to be automatically equated with "unhealthy". Unfortunately, it seems to be common practice. If you're talking about bleached and separated grain, artificial colors and flavors, and foods pumped full of artificial preservatives? Sure, that's probably not too good for you. But on the other hand, any food that has had anything done to it (cooking, cutting, packaging) is by definition "processed."Luke wrote:^ And to add, all processed foods if possible. That said, I wouldn't start buying that Mac and Cheese made out of Cauliflower. Yuck.

Any diet changes you make need to be permanent. You can't drop sugar for a few months and then go back to it and not expect to put the weight back on.flamepanther wrote: Either way can work though, depending on a person's metabolism. Enough physical activity can work off sugars, starch and fatty foods, whereas a lean diet requires less activity.

Yeah. I'm speaking about the traditional meaning of the word processed usually associated with food. I mean, all food is processed in one way or another, but we're splitting hairs here. Processed = not nearly what it used to be.flamepanther wrote:"Processed" is an unreasonably broad term, I think, to be automatically equated with "unhealthy". Turns out it was indeed sonic boom. It was in the paper today. A "pressurization issue" caused an F-15 to rapidly descend. I was talking with a co-worker today that was also home at the time and said she thought a tree landed on her house. That's really amazing to me, since at my house I thought the source of the boom was directly above me as well. And she lives a good 15 miles away.Ziggy587 wrote:Something seriously just exploded very close to my house, enough to rattle the windows and feel it. I think it might have been the sonic boom from a fighter jet (a lot of them fly over here). If it was, fuck them. You can't fly that fucking low.

Sorry if it wasn't clear but I was just making a general comment rather than finding fault with your statements. Too many people treat dieting as a temporary thing rather than a lifestyle change such they wonder why they're overweight as before once they're off the diet change.flamepanther wrote:Where did I say it should be temporary?gtmtnbiker wrote:Any diet changes you make need to be permanent. He could just do what I do: become poor and stress out about it. I've lost over 25 pounds in the last two months.

@gtmtnbiker: Fair enough. Thanks for clearing that up.
@Ack: I know you jest, but even so, stress usually increases the body's tendency to store up fat. The loss of income with which to buy food might have more to do with it
In an earlier time in my life, I lost a lot of weight due to serious depression--although this also is not typical, nor recommended!
