Those don't count.
I just want a facelift like FFI, FFII, and FFIV Complete on the PSP. Those are awesome. I have absolutely no interest in the DS remakes.

It counts... It is a fun little game, just some of the purists prefer the hand drawn sprites.Xeogred wrote:Those don't count.![]()

It just reminds me of an early PS1 or Saturn remake ported onto a hand held lol.
The DS remake of IV was a lot of fun.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I quite enjoyed the remake of FFIII myself, which is more than I can say for any version of FFIV.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Just popping in to say I'm kind of obsessed with FF6.
You guys weren't kidding about the difficulty though. I'm steamrolling everything I come across. I feel unstoppable.
If anyone's curious about my progress, I finally got Terra back after clearing out Vector, and I'm now taking a break back in Narshe.
Is the World of Ruin the halfway point? Am I getting close?

Sounds like you are fairly far. I wouldn't say the WoR is entirely the midway point, but that's like 30% of the game or so. Well, at least that or much less if we're talking narrative. That's why in the hundreds of times I've beaten the game I always feel like the WoR segment is just... awkward, I can never describe it. I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on the whole experience.
That said it gets really fun to grind and do things to completion at that point in my opinion. And it's never really necessary at all. Guess that's a good thing though, it's just fun to power level a bit in that game and do all the extras.

already mentioned in other threads, but I'm really into Hyperdimension Neptunia.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
The World of Ruin is basically where the game opens up and most of the story becomes optional. There's a lot hidden in the WoR, more than you think, ranging from Cyan's love letters to a widow to Gau meeting his father. But nearly all of it is done through sidequests.Xeogred wrote:Sounds like you are fairly far. I wouldn't say the WoR is entirely the midway point, but that's like 30% of the game or so. Currently I'm playing The Temple of Elemental Evil on PC. I enjoy a solid Dungeons & Dragons-based game from time to time, and this one plays like an interesting fusion of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights so far.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
CFFJR you can skip over this for now, not really spoilerrific but yeah.
Believe me I've done all there is to do in the WoR, except collect all of Gau's abilities like you said you did once in another thread Ack, lol, but yeah. I mean you gotta admit, does Kefka even do anything in the WoR? I don't think he ever does. It's just like bam, there's the final dungeon, we'll go when we're ready. I certainly don't want to make such a horrible comparison, but it's almost like how in FFXIII after the 30 hour tutorial when you get to Chapter 11 or whatever when the game is open, I know a lot of people like myself had to put the game down for awhile because the change was so dramatic and weird, it was like a new game in an awkward way. So I just kind of think FFVI trips a bit when you hit the WoR, I've always liked everything about the game before that point more than after, even though I know some people here disagree with that. And after just beating FFV, I would definitely say the ending is nowhere near as satisfying as FFV and FFIV's. I love both FFVI and FFVII all around, but I think they both have pretty depressing endings that aren't that rewarding. It's like you killed the big guy, but did you save the world? Well to an extent yeah in the grand scheme of things, but you were a little too late. lol. *shrugs* Not that everything needs to be cliche.
The Shadow sidequests were always my favorite. /random

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Admittedly that post you responded to was written more for CFFJR instead of being a response to yours. I do agree though that the World of Ruin is a very different animal from the World of Balance. Kefka does one thing I can think of in the World of Ruin, which is to randomly attack a town with his tower's death ray...which gets mentioned once. Beyond that, no, he's pretty much done all he could, what more is there for him to do? He's already destroyed the world, killed main characters, taken over the planet, released a dozen or so legendary monsters, and formed a crazy cult, all within the year you're out of it. He's just sitting up there drinking a cold one and waiting for you.Xeogred wrote:Believe me I've done all there is to do in the WoR, except collect all of Gau's abilities like you said you did once in another thread Ack, lol, but yeah. You're right though, that ending is rather depressing and not very rewarding.
