Yeah I noticed that too. Usually the first episodes of any kind of series are lower in quality because they have to introduce characters and build their personalities, which is pretty tedious. But with Thundercats they shouldn't have really had that problem since this is a remake. Regardless I think they got the basics down and I'm hopeful that as the series goes on the episodes will improve in quality.

That being said I still enjoyed their take on the original series (having watched it back in the day). And I don't think you'd even have to have knowledge of the older series to appreciate it (though I did like how they brought the original voice of Lion-O to do Lion-O's father).

Also, Gargoyles and Batman had their share of cheesy moments I'm sure, all cartoons that are at least aimed at somewhat younger audiences do. Even ones aimed at adults sometimes I'd say.

The only reason Tygra was trying to reign Lion-o in during the second episode is because the monster he was fighting had nothing to do with their mission to find the Book of Omens, or their war with the Lizards, or their revenge against Mum-Ra. Put him in front of his sworn enemies, and his pride (pun intended) pushes him to fight even in the face of certain defeat--just like it did when Thundera fell. The characters aren't inconsistent, you just have to read their motives.

I guess the new Thundercats is aimed at the same young crowd as the original, which is fine. I just miss the days of cartoons for kids that could appeal to older folks like Gargoyles or Batman the Animated Series. I don't think I can get into this Thundercats reboot. Episode 4 was so cheesy it made me cringe with that silly forest people storyline.

I thought it was kinda heartwarming.

Besides that, so far they're focusing on making Lion-o grow into his role as a leader--a major theme of the original series. We should expect the series to be like this until Lion-o becomes a more robust hero--which he seems to be doing fairly quickly. If we're lucky, the series should be able to move on from that soon.
