I'm curious because I've been considering buying a PS3 as well and would rather sell off my old PS2 so I don't have an extra system lying around that I'd have to use to play PS2 games. I'm trying to save some space here.
all can play PS1. The 60GB could play PS2 and the 80GB could play *some* PS2.
I see. Is it worth it to go for the 60-80gb PS3 then? In other words, will it have issues playing newer releases on the system - or is it simply less memory?
I have a 60GB and a 40GB. I love my 60GB for backwards compatibility. The 80GB uses software to emulate PS2, so not as many PS2 games work as well. If you really want one with BC, go for the 60GB. It plays all PS3 games fine, and you can easily upgrade the HDD (it's just a laptop HDD), so no problems there. Of course, there's the issue that the older PS3's were more prone to overheating. Some will say it's a big problem, others will say they've had their model since launch with no problem. At any rate, I found both of my fat PS3's for just about $200, so if you're in the market for a used PS3, it's really not a bad price if the PS2 compatability matters to you. I personally love having virtual memory cards instead of buying real ones.

What game(s) would you say is HDN most similar to?
Yeah, I think it's about time I upgraded. I've been using a regular PS2 and PS1 memory card, and especially with the PS1 card - it really can't hold that many game saves. Plus, then I can finally buy PS3 games as well.
Dunno how much I could sell my fat PS2 for though. I've had it since it's launch almost.

um. Hmm. Well. it's very Japanese. Haha. If you're into some of the stranger RPG's that Atlus, NIS or the like have brought to the US you'll dig it. It's just super weird and original. I mean, all the characters are consoles in the console wars (Neptunia = Sega, then there's Arfore aka R4 the NDS flashcart, etc). It's just really awesomely unique. IF YOU ARE INTO quirky JRPG's.
