Wow, that one slipped by me. I guess that was a bit of a down-time for my gaming interestAwesomeMonstar wrote:they did, the apple pippin. Imagine how trendy and expensive it would be. It would have to be small enough to carry around as a fashion accessory!

Im 14, and yes, alot of my friends dont like retro games but i love them, cheap, classic fun. But think about it, if they built a Sega System with software emulation of Dreamcast and Saturn games. Also they could do what sony did. Be a SLIGHT competitor and focus on a bunch of markets. But truthfully, i see more of a handheld coming from them as they are cheaper and much easier to recover from loss compared to a full blown console.ott0bot wrote:I would be cool, but it's not like they are going to release a bunch of old school 2d games and retro stuff. It'd have to be just as "next gen" as 360, ps2, and wii or there is no way it would compete. The biggest market is like 10-15 year old kids and they really don't care about the same stuff most retro-games do. I love Sega stuff, but there games have been pretty disapointing lately. They'd have to get some really strong 3rd party support or they'd be in touble. I don't think it will happen. I think Appple is more likely to release a game system than SEGA!

You're a pretty smart for being 14. It's too bad there aren't more retrogamers in the younger generation. And I agree, a handheld system would be a bit better but and i think thats what the PSP is trying to capitalize on. For example, the re-release of Dracula X with Castlevania:SOTN and the never released in US Rondo of Blood. This alone made me want to by a PSP, not to mention the Princess Crown, Power Stone, Capcom and Genesis collections. Plus you can load roms on it. Sega would have a tough time competing because SONY has such good ditrubution too. But hey man, doesn't mean you can't try, stranger things have happened. But i think you might have to get most of japan to petition first and then try to get it over here.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Im 14, and yes, alot of my friends dont like retro games but i love them, cheap, classic fun. youl see, and if sega wont endorse it i will, (got a rich friendMozgus wrote:Ya gatta be realistic about this, man. It's not happening, and never will.
also never say never, sega is starting to come back man. also i may just build it for myself and rip games to it. (our "programmer" is gonna put software emulation for saturn games and sega cd games and make it so we can rip em, im more of a hardware guy so its up to him to make it work from a game stand point.

All of the developers and qualities of Sega pre-2001 are gone. The current company wouldn't deserve being handed a console even if someone else built it for them. What ever happened to Yu Suzuki, did Shenmue end his career? I know he's been working on Shenmue online for what seems like forever. Maybe he'll actually work on VF6 and I'll care about Sega again.
Right now Sega is nothing but a big publisher buying up developers and software licenses. Success for Sega nowadays would be competing with EA, not innovation like the 90's. They make a few good games still, just nothing like the old days. Sega in house software used to equate AAA software.
