What Are Some Recently Discovered Games For You?

Post by BurningDoom »

Isn't it cool to read/watch a review of an old game you've never heard of that just looks fantastic? Or buy a lot of games from a yard sale or eBay and discover some random game in it you've never heard of that turns out to be a blast? Or maybe some used music shop was getting rid of all their Genesis games for a $1 a piece and you just went crazy. Anyway it happens, it's just awesome to discover some old gem you've never heard of. In my 20+ years of gaming, I still find these to my delight.

I want to hear about some of them. You never know, we may all just educate each other a little.

Cadash for Sega Genesis

I saw this game in a CGRUndertow review recently. Ever since I've had my eye out for it. It's an action-RPG that plays similar to Zelda II or The Battle of Olympus. But being on the Genesis, it of course has much better looking graphics, and has more of a Western-Fantasy theme to it. This was also released on the TurboGrafx-16. And was released on the XBox version of Taito Legends 2 (and I of course own the PS2 version  ).

Rocket Knight Adventures for Sega Genesis (and Sparkster)

I know, some of you Genesis fans are probably scoffing at me right now. I should have heard of this one, but somehow it escaped my attention back in the day. I was too busy playing the many, many beat-em ups, Zeldas, Marios, Sonics, SFII, & Mortal Kombat. But now I really, really want to play this game and it's like-minded sequel, Sparkster. The game looks well-made, the controls look polished, and it just plain looks fun.

The Record of Lodoss War for Sega Dreamcast

You like Diablo? You like the Western-influenced Japanese Anime "The Record of Lodoss War"? Then you'll fall in love with this overlooked gem on the Dreamcast. It plays very similar to Diablo, with more areas to explore and better graphics. And it has awesome movie scenes in-between your hack-n-slashing.

Parasite Eve for the PSX, I have known about it for a long time and I've always wanted to play it but could never find a copy untill I noticed on the PSN, so far a pretty solid game.

I recently discovered Alundra, and I am quite happy about it.

Within the last year I discovered shmups (never really knew about em before that, aside raiden).

Its now my favorite genre by a long shot.

Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman, it's really cool but it's fricking hard, the atmosphere, cheesy dialog and the slightly complex combat system makes up for the high difficulty level.

I don't generally like Mech games, but Steel Battalion is a recent pick up that is a tremendous exception to that rule :D

Front Mission series. I had heard of it way back but never really understood what it was about. Just this past year I played the original SNES version on an emulator and loved it! It's like Final Fantasy Tactics meets Armored Core, two of my favorite games! I'm still keeping my eye out for the third one released on the PS1.

I bought a PS2 game called Secret Weapons Over Normandy from a pawn shop because it was $2.50 and reminded me of Aces Over Europe (an old PC game that I really enjoy). The game was published by LucasArts and contains X-Wing and TIE Fighters as unlockable planes. It's so much unspeakable fun to blast TIEs out of the sky over WWII-era Germany.
