Steam on Mac auto-starting
Steam on Mac auto-starting
Every time I reboot my Mac Pro, Steam starts up. I do not want Steam to start unless I personally tell it to start. I see no option in the preferences to tell it not to do that. How do I make Steam obey my wishes on this matter?
Re: Steam on Mac auto-starting
With steam open; Steam > Settings> Interface
There will be a box checked, it says "Run Steam when my computer starts". Uncheck it.

Re: Steam on Mac auto-starting
That is already unchecked. Maybe Steam for Mac is a bit, errrm, "special"?
Maybe the preferences are corrupted. I'll try to locate them and trash them. Then start Steam with a new set.

Could be its your computer that has set it to start up then. I don't have a mac but my google-fu tells me to do this:
System Preferences > Accounts > your account > Login Items
If you see steam in there remove it from the list.

This is how you have to do it. And don't just uncheck it, press the minus button at the bottom of the window.MrHealthy wrote:Could be its your computer that has set it to start up then. I don't have a mac but my google-fu tells me to do this:

That's interesting. I checked that but the only thing there was something called iTunes Helper (which I promptly removed). Maybe it is fixed now. I hate to do it but I must do a test reboot. I will post below with the results...

Also, if you're running Lion, when you restart be sure to either exit Steam or uncheck the box which says "Run currently open applications upon login" or something to that effect.Redifer wrote:That's interesting. Re: Steam on Mac auto-starting
Well it didn't launch, I am very pleased. I couldn't find the preference files so I just toggled the "Run Steam when my computer starts" on and then back off a couple of times.
No Lion here. I tried it out on my back-up drive and wasn't very happy with it, so away it went. Plus it doesn't work very well with some very essential PowerPC applications I have that do not have any Intel equivalents since they are no longer updated.
Anyway, thanks guys!
