Best Electronics tools you own.
Re: Best Electronics tools you own.
I believe there's 60/40 tin/lead solder in the Radio Shacks around here. Probably not in CA though. When I buy solder for plumbing, I never see anything but lead free in H ome Depot.

Oh goodie they have 16 pin sockets. I'll go pick some up this weekend. Rather pay $4 or whatever they charge instead of having to wait for China or pay Mousers shipping fees.
Get some off one of the component suppliers sites. Lead-free sucks. Most come with that flux that kills off tips faster.I believe there's 60/40 tin/lead solder in the Radio Shacks around here. I have a fat solid and two different sized rosin cores with lead. I should pick up a spare or two before they completely disappear. I imagine vintage auto body workers would go nuts in this day of OSHA regulations. Instead of bondo fill, the norm was a torch and a wood paddle of lead.
Before my time, I prefer brazing and hammer welding, but the putty is convenient.

What about DigiKey? They're my new favorite online shop. I only pay First Class USPS prices, and I get my items in 1-2 days of ordering.vxbinaca wrote:Oh goodie they have 16 pin sockets. The lead free I was talking about wasn't for electronics though, but rather for plumbing. I would never wanna use lead free solder for electronics, but I never had a problem with it for plumbing. Of course, that's a whole different ball field.vxbinaca wrote:Get some off one of the component suppliers sites. Lead-free sucks. Most come with that flux that kills off tips faster.

Did a run of TV-B-Gones for some friends and the Atmel ATtiny85's they sell are something like 40 cents more from Digi-Key per unit in quantities of 25. Just wasn't economical to order from there.Ziggy587 wrote:What about DigiKey? They're my new favorite online shop. I only pay First Class USPS prices, and I get my items in 1-2 days of ordering.

I forgot to mention the 18 pin sockets are 59¢ each at Radio Shack. The desolder tool was just under ten bucks. However some things such as cables are cheaper at Frys. Weird how some of the stuff is overpriced and others are inexpensive.vxbinaca wrote:Oh goodie they have 16 pin sockets. I'll go pick some up this weekend.
