Yes, infrared, by a company called DOCS, never heard anything but complaints about them though

I had a DOCS controller for my mega-drive when I was a kid. I still have nightmares about that thing.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

My dream is to have great Wireless RF Saturn and Dreamcast controllers.
I don't want to deal with IR.

There is a wireless RF Dreamcast solution. This question was raised by me here in April 2007 and by others a little earlier as well. Here is the forum link:

http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... sc&start=0

You need a PSX/PS2 adapter and a RF wireless controller for the PSX/PS2. NOTE that not all wireless PSX/PS2 controllers will work!!! I tested several brands, but the controller listed below DEFINITELY works.

Adapter: Total Control 2 or Dream Connection 2
Wireless Controller: Mad Catz Microcon Wireless 330

It is a partial solution in that some games work flawlessly and others do not. It would be a great idea to compile a list here of what games work with this setup and what games do not. (I have 2 DCs, so I just have my games split between the 2 wired/wireless systems). Here was what I found (yes, I need to buy/test more DC games!):

Games that did NOT work: Armada, Grand Theft Auto 2, Unreal Tournament, and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram

Games that worked fine: Cannon Spike, Carrier, Expendable, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Web Browser 2.0 (including Sega Swirl)

Please read the earlier post as I even listed websites and prices for some of the gear to set this up.

Happy hunting!

Found 'em on eBay

That PS2 workaround is a great trick if you already have the PS2 controllers, but I've been looking for something thats a bit more original.

As a Dreamcast collector, I'd been wording about these myself and learned about the DOCS controllers a couple months ago. A friend of mine had them back in the day and said they worked out great, good response time, etc. and was pretty impressed given that they're IR. Anyway, turns out my saved search on eBay just turned up a result this week, which I figured I'd share. The photos are actually pretty helpful even if you aren't interested in actually buying them.

Here's the link to the search that brings them up. If it doesn't work, just try searching on eBay for "DOCS wireless dreamcast".

I'm kind of surprised that they are getting bid up as high as they are. Then again, a lot of people will buy Dreamcast stuff for the sake of collecting and nothing more.

I've got two controller extenders, and they work fine for my purposes.
