Samura Champloo Sidetracked (PS2)... actually pretty fun and weird.

Majora's Mask. I put it down years ago and never finished it. Just re-beat Ocarina a couple weeks ago and felt a longing for more n64-era Zelda. Image

Tackled ExDeath's castle in FFV. I love how that feels like it could be the final dungeon, topped off with the fight with ExDeath himself which is probably one of the hardest FF battles -easily-. Despite being pretty overleveled he wiped my party clean and if it weren't for Bartz having 4x Attack and a Blood Sword (absorb every hit), I would have died. I tried reviving my party members so many times I used up all Phoenix Downs. ExDeath even technically killed me a few times, but he double attacked following up some attack with Blizzaga, which Bartz absorbed thanks to an Ice Shield.

Needless to say I pulled it off in my first go, but it was scary as crap and not a pushover at all. ExDeath is awesome.

Yeah, I'm still on OOT. Sucks when you don't play the game for a few days and then completely forget what the heck your current quest is.

My obvious rule of thumb for Zelda's, once you start a dungeon don't put it down until you're done with it. But yeah, still easy to get lost outside of those even. haha.

Especially with Majora's Mask. I found through that if you get the special item in a MM dungeon (Fire arrows for example) then you can return to day one to save if you must, and use the item to shortcut your way back to where you left off for the most part. I know they built it this way and thats probably obvious to most people but it didn't occur to me last time I played.

Playing back through Ocarina was great also. I could probably restart my game tomorrow and enjoy it almost as much.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Easily my favorite of the Prime series and just a hairs breath behind Super Metroid as far as the overall series goes.

I think I am going to kick off a Metroid bonanza as I haven't cleared any Metroid games in 2011. I think I'll revisit either Super Metroid or Other M next.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I told you man!

Scholar at the Library of the Ancients: "So his true form is that of a tree... and he transforms into a splinter too?! That's so evil! ... I think."

The humor never lets up either and I love it. This GBA version/translation is a million times better than the PSX one. Never going back.

But yeah the game kind of gives me Secret of Mana-esque vibes now when it comes to the storytelling/atmosphere (or maybe even better compared to Evermore's childishness). Story/characters aren't quite as awesome as FFIV or FFVI, but the atmosphere is seriously pretty damn awesome really putting me in that world, just like Secret of Mana does. Maybe not the best in terms of plot, but the experience is top notch. I guess there's still some semiwhat dark stuff off and on though, like ExDeath's castle looking like something straight out of Hell/Doom. The Galuf thing was honestly more intense than anything like that in any of the other old FF's too this time around, probably because it had a lot more buildup and him and Bartz were just hilarious.

And damn is this epic art or what:

I feel like I need to replay FFVI for the 20th time after this to possibly re-evaluate the way I rank the FF's. FFV's third world > WoR, seriously. The theme is so damn spooky, but with a glimmer of hope as well (unlike WoR's music). It's the subtle atmosphere that gives FFV it's serious edge when needed. WoR on the other hand... everytime I get to that part in FFVI, it's just weird. I've told you and others around here that a lot, I just simply can't explain it. Here at the final stretch in FFV I still feel like it's all been planned out and the pacing is perfect, finding all these legendary weapons now and hitting up these epic final dungeons, etc. The journey has never slumped.
