I've got Monoprice cables, an official Sony cable, some random Philips one I bought at Target, one that came with my 360, one that came with a video card...it's not that. It's also not consistent.
Maybe it's something with HDCP, which wouldn't suprise me - it's the only device I've got hooked up that would need it. I don't think the 360 uses it, nor does my PC.
PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
It is definitely not the Monoprice cables those things are fantastic. As long as you have one current enough to carry the load of signals you are good to go.
Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
I mentioned earlier that my cable box putting out HDMI would sometimes not work on power up or when switching inputs inside the TV from SVideo or Component to DVI/HDMI. Fixed by switching the external HDMI video switchbox out then back on again. Perhaps because of a change of resolution from a Analog SVideo 480i input to Digital HDMI 720p for example. The losing of the "sync" between the HDMI cable and the HD?
For the game consoles the cut out during the middle of the game, when does the black screen appear? Does it happen during a screen change, maybe when going back to the game menu or a cut scene?
Does unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable resolve the issue? If so, a not perfect solution but workable, throw in a HDMI video switchbox.

Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
What we're talking about isn't video cutting out and staying gone, or flicker when the device is swapping resolutions. It's video randomly dropping for maybe a few seconds and then coming back all on its own. As mentioned, it can happen when doing anything on the PS3, and is just random. I could watch a movie and not see it, or have it happen twice in a minute idling on the XMB.CRTGAMER wrote:I mentioned earlier that my cable box putting out HDMI would sometimes not work on power up or when switching inputs inside the TV from SVideo or Component to DVI/HDMI. Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
I have purchased many HDMI cables from Amazon at 1 cent each (plus $4 shipping). They have never cut out on anything and all the settings are sky-high. Only the PS3 has ever cut out and I think that is a Monoprice $10 cable. Monster® Cable™ certainly wouldn't be any better. Hell, it might be worse, Monster® is an awful brand.
Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
Clearly the solution is to buy a 360.

Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
I have a PS3 slim with a Yamaha A/V receiver and Samsung 1080p TV. I have never experienced any issue with my PS3 dropping a picture/sound for a few seconds or anything like that. I'm using HDMI cables.
The HDMI cables that I have come from Amazon (e.g, Amazon is the manufacturer).
My PS3 is on the latest firmware. The Samsung & Yamaha are on original firmware.

To be fair, I got my 360 loooooong before I got my PS3.
Not that you're wrong, I'm just saying. Particularly since my 360 has been flawless from the start.

Re: PS3 HDMI nonsense (help)
The only thing I could think of is the beginnings of some sort of hardware failure. You might look up YLOD problems and symptoms, see if that matches up with any of them. I know there's at least some failure that causes a total lack of A/V, but I've never heard of period blanking of the A/V. Best to look it up now before something gets worse. Good luck!

It seems to me like it's a desync issue, but the trigger is incredibly random.
