Im trying to clean up my room and as I putting things where they should be, I started to read through a game manual and read the back of it.
I read up on the warranty.
I've never done one and I makes me wonder if anyone here has.
how long does it take? Not taking it to the store but returning it to the game company.
did you get your money back, or did you get a replacement disc?
Was the customer service good or was it crap?
well thats about it, what is your story?
Has anyone here done a Manufacturer's Warranty on a disc?

I don't know, but I've never had a defective disc before from a new game. Closest I ever came to that was when my dad discovered a copy of Pacman World 3 for PC bought at Dollar General had to be returned, as the disc was completely blank. But Dollar General took care of that, we didn't think of using the manufacturer's warranty.

Most of the ones I've noticed asked you to send in the disc and $10 or more for a replacement. The once or twice I've wanted or needed one I could usually find the game for less elsewhere or the company was not likely to have any kicking around anymore anyway.

Same with Hobie. It's usually less of a hassle to just go the store route, so I've never bothered sending things back to the manufacturer in the rare cases that I got a bad disc (this is compounded by the fact that most disc manufacturers are from countries different than mine).
What's more interesting to me is what the stores do to the discs they take back? Do they
a.) try to resell it
b.) fix it
c.) return it to the manufacturer in bulk
d.) or do they scrap it and treat it as spoilage, kind of like how some shops just throw away books without covers instead of selling.

I can't comment on games, but for previous retail jobs I've had, most of the time bad items are sent back to the manufacturer or distributor that sent them to the store. Whether that was a single item every now and then or in lots depended on the source and the amount of items that came from that source. Occasionally for less expensive items one would be told to keep or destroy the defective item and credit or a replacement would come in the next shipment.neilencio wrote: What's more interesting to me is what the stores do to the discs they take back? Re: Has anyone here done a Manufacturer's Warranty on a disc?
I've done it, I got need for speed underground for the PC back in college, one of the discs was just defective and I couldn't play the game or install or something beyond a certain point or something.
I contacted them, they asked some questions and then I sent them the game and a few weeks later they sent me a new game. I think I borrowed a friend's copy to finish the install so by the time I got the replacement I was kind of over it and just kept the game sealed in my closet.
