Which guide did you use?

I have been thinking about playing through Zelda II, but could never find a really nice guide.

Yeah that game is seriously trial and error weird stuff. I think I got all the way to the 6-7th dungeon once but never finished it, couldn't figure out what to do or something. I dig the game a lot unlike most, but it is weird and pretty tough. I need to conquer it someday.

So those are some well deserved backflips. lol

I absolutely loved the game. It might be different than the original Legend of Zelda, but I honestly think that it is just as good. If you like Simon's Quest (The AVGN might not like it, but I sure do) or Symphony of the Night then you will probably enjoy this one, too.

As far as a guide goes, try the guide here at Zeldadungeon.net. It really helped me out when I had absolutely no idea what to do.

You're next, Ninja Gaiden.

+1

I love both Zelda II and Simon's Quest. Great games. Just because they're different than their brethren in the series, doesn't make them bad games by any means. I had a blast with them. However I will admit, I only beat the final boss battle in Zelda II like once. I can always get there, but have a hell of a time with the final battle.

I am very happy to see some Zelda II love. I seriously think it's great, very different, but still an awesome game. Not to mention some of the best, unorthodox Zelda themes in the series! Love the battle music.

So yeah, despite Simon's Quest having an odd rep too I wonder if I'd like it as well, I definitely haven't hesitated to stay away from it. I'll check it out sometime.

I also think Zelda II gets a bad rap, though I think Simon's Quest deserves some of the complaints. It's definitely the weakest Castlevania of the NES era, and possibly the weakest side scrolling Castelvania altogether (though I haven't played all the handheld ones).

King of Fighters '94 for Neo Geo *new* Wow, I am hooked on KoF. I don't know what it is but this game clicked with me a lot more than SFII did and the 3 on 3 fighting was much more fun than round based fights. I'm sold on SNK now and am looking forward to making my way through the series.

Holy crap. If you'll excuse me, I need to do some backflips.

I've always been very vocal about my love of Zelda II. It was actually my first Zelda game, and in fact one of the first NES games I can remember getting. It was a birthday gift, along with a copy of the NES Player's Guide (remember that big black one that you could get from toy stores, etc?)

Sure it's punch-you-in-the-nuts difficult. But it's a fascinating game. Very unique. Excellent music. Wonderful graphics. And though I'd certainly say many other Zelda entries best it on a technical level, I'm pretty sure it would still make my personal Top 5 when discussing "favorites" of the series.

If you've played Capcom Classics Collection Vol.2, your list would probably look rather similar. Captain Commando is the only legit stand-out title for me of what I've played and finished, beyond the infamously unplayable version of SSFIIT, with its dodgy AI and four frames of lag.

What, you didn't like King of Dragons? That game made for some awesome hack and slash!

It's a fine, servicable piece of game, but I'd struggle to remember any of it minus the Red Dragon when it's all over.
