Classic Cartoons (1920's-60's)

Post by The Last Horseman »

I love Classic Cartoons. Especially some of the old ones that people do not know of, like Oswald the Rabbit, which was Disney's golden boy before Mickey Mouse. (Possibly common knowledge after Epic Mickey came out, not sure) The early Mickey Mouse cartoons are also some of my favorites, along with the Merrie Melodies, Early Popeye's, Felix the Cat, and many others, including those lost to time due to racism or other 'politically incorrect' ideas. What are your thoughts? Do you like them? How do you collect them?

Other than these question's, I want to talk about the collecting side of things, as many of these cartoons can be hard to find, especially on DVDs. I've looked at Felix the Cat, and I don't know if I will ever be able to pick all of those up...

I've been wanting to watch Crusader Rabbit, but I don't think it's on DVD. :(

Why is 'politically incorrect' spelled that way? Are you implying that some of those cartoons weren't blatantly racist?

I think by 'politically incorrect', he meant things other than racism that's considered politically incorrect today. For example, cartoons making fun of Nazis, complete with swastikas. Or that one Bugs Bunny episode that featured the word "jackass."

Supreez can read my mind or else we think alike. That is why I posted it that way. It also slightly has to do with cartoons like Speedy Gonzalez, who got banned until 2002, because he was considered racists towards Hispanics, even though many Hispanics I know were extremely angry they took him off. Or how they changed the voice of the lady housekeeper on the Tom and Jerry cartoons because they thought that her speech was racist, even though it was simply how the black voice actor talked. etc. I could probably think of other examples too.

I like the old Max Fleischer Superman cartoons. I've also always wanted to see some of Windsor McCay's animation.

Not quite, I think. See the post before yours:

It should be a crime that this show (as well as Kimba) has never been published uncut in North America. Makes me sad.

I'll have to look up the Astroboy Cartoons; I've never known anything about the character, and my friends convinced me that it had started as a anime or something or other.

Oh and for Supreez:

Maybe not the best example, but they are available.

More like, "it started anime." Tetsuwan Atom (the Japanese, uncut version of AstroBoy) is generally considered to be the first anime. Its historical significance is why I said it should be criminal that only a dubbed version with missing episodes is available here.
