Just catching up on threads after being away on vacation for a week without internet.

There were a few posts on issues with Firefox 5. I have given up on Firefox for the time being because it's a memory hog and slow at times. I usually use Chrome but recently rediscovered Opera. A few years ago, I used Opera 9 and had issues with it. It seems that version 11 is pretty reliable and it's very fast at rendering pages. I recommend people giving Opera a shot if they're unhappy with FF.

I suppose as long as I hand him a beer instead, it would be fine.
You should totally do this.

In fact, first thing you should do when he walks in is hand him a bottled water.
And tell him it's $6. :P

IMO, Texas would be better off if it was it's own Republic again. We have everything we need for a good economy, and we're not completely in the whole economically.
No.

You know, I don't think I've ever met anybody who actually LIKES Rick Perry as Governor. I've always figured that he's stayed in office because the other potential Republican candidates are even worse (or he's done a good job at making them look worse). Well that and the fact that the idea of Texas having a Democrat for Governor is downright laughable.

I don't exactly go asking around though so meh.

Put together my first Ikea drawer last night. Didn't think I would have to nail in so many tacks, I think it was around 30 in the end.

Anyway, let's not start having a political argument here. I was just stating my random thought that I'd vote for him, I'm not particularly interested in defending it. I have my reasons for liking him.
Native Texan here. Not trying to debate, just point out some factual issues. Perry asked Texas to pray for rain, but the rally was about the national decline of America--both moral and economic. So yes, he did have a rally to pray about the recession. Your recollection about the secession remark is accurate, I think.

Also, don't be fooled by his economic "Texas miracle." The unemployment rate is at about 9%, which is higher than a lot of states, and the job growth we've had is primarily minimum wage food service and call center jobs.

Otherwise, I guess his policies should be relatively obvious.

@AppleQueso: Texas used to be a "blue dog" state until our districts were seriously gerrymandered in recent decades. Look up Ann Richards, our governer before Bush. She was well liked (yes, unlike Perry) and was responsible for a lot of what's still right about the services our state provides--at least until Perry can finish eroding them.

In my other post, my point is that I would be okay with Texas seceeding, I'm personally indifferent to Perry.

Yeah, I'd have an issue with that.

I"m about to head out to church to meet my Grandfather in law for his 91st birthday. Hoping to get back home before 5pm so I have time to prep for the upcoming work week. That, and getting home by 5pm would give me time to cook a decent dinner.

For the moment I'm leaning more towards Jon Huntsman as my preferred, based on his foreign policy experience as well some of his social views and his experience governing Utah. But then, I haven't yet heard him debate, so perhaps that may change.
