Is There Any Truth to the Apple Console Rumors?

Post by BurningDoom »

I've read online from various places that there are rumors of Apple making a video game console for the next-gen due to the success of gaming on their iPhones and iPods.

Does anyone here know if there is any truth to these rumors? Or are they just another "Dreamcast 2" ghost?

As Apple doesn't really make games, they would probably expect third parties to develop their software... which seems like a recipe for success, right? I mean, nothing breeds confidence like zero first party support on an unproven console platform, right?

There really wouldn't be much of a point for them. The iPhone and iPad already are massive forces in gaming, and they really rely on their portability for their success. Why release another console that wouldn't have the advantages their highly successful platforms already have?

That, and those portable games are (relatively) inexpensive to make, while pulling in millions of dollars. They are sitting on a damn gold mine.

No, a console would require more than one button and that alone would turn Apple away.

If they did anything it would be some kind of iOS Apple TV or something. Just play your apps you already bought on the big screen or something.
