Retron 3 Crashes when I play Starfox :(. Does SNES MINI work

Hi, Im new here. I recently bought a Retron 3 to play a few SNES and Genesis games that I have had for ages. I looked up the list of games that work for the Retron 3 (second version) and sure enough Star Fox was listed on a few lists. Its plays fine for the first 5 minutes, then it just crashes. Im not sure if this is normal.

I wanted to know if the SNES Mini plays Star Fox, I know this system came out later, and wasnt sure if FX based games were kept in mind when the system was developed. Snes Minis are more prominent on Ebay, so I was just curious to know if FX Chip games do work on it before I spend more money. Any help on this issue would be greatly Appreciated! Thanks.

SNES Mini plays all the same games as the original SNES console. Same exact hardware, in a smaller box. It will cost more than a normal SNES though. Have fun.

Thanks for the info Horsemen. What exactly is the deal with the S-Video? Does the Mini support S - Video? If not, does the Original SNES support it?

original SNES does, mini doesn't.

No reason really to get a mini honestly. Hadware's kinda flimsy too. Try and find an origina.

If space is a REALLY HUGE issue and you don't need s-video, the mini isn't a bad choice. Also if you just can't stand the idea that your system might turn yellow.

While I prefer the original hardware, you could also try out the FC Twin, or the Retro Duo, both of which run FX games just fine.

Great! Thanks for all the info guys. The Retron wasnt a complete waste I suppose, it plays Genesis just fine. Guess ill just have to find a good deal on an original SNES hardware. Thanks again!

That's OK. Sega's own Genesis models thanks to miserable composite encoding suffer far worse than SNES there. Hence ways of using s-video or above are of much greater benefit to it.

Here and there, I hear about these sorts of incompatibilities and shortcomings of the Retron 3. It's a shame, too, because I was really excited about the system. I mean, NES/Genesis/SNES in one box plus all the original controller ports? I'm sold! Really, I was hoping it would be a Retro Duo with an additional Genesis slot.......a Retro Trio, if you will.
