Pinball Hall of Fame Museum Las Vegas : SNES Arcade Cabinet

Pinball Hall of Fame Museum

Finally visited the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum in Las Vegas. I had so much fun, I forgot to buy the DVDs offered there, come to think of it, I didn't even see a store inside. Ah well, its on the link above. An interactive museum, more like an Arcade with a lot of pinball games and some classic Arcade games. No tokens, feed the the tables real quarters. 8)

You know how the classic Vegas Slot machines would drop real coins, the sounds? Lost by a silly printout on modern slots, doesn't quite have the same energy. Pinball is the same, the classic 70s mechanical sounds when the score rings up.

Great to show the kids an early form of "Motion Control" in pinball games. Bumping the table to kick the ball at the bumpers without tilting. Instead of pulling the plunger to launch a ball, slam with an open hand for the quick launch back into action. Some of the older machines have a smaller second "plunger" to stage the single ball back into the launch slot. Man I love hearing the ball reload! The magnets really pull the ball around, this is forgotten on video game versions of pinball games. Gaaah I did hate the magnet that would pull the ball to the right of the kicker, dropping down the side slot. Too much side bump to save the ball, then TILT, lost all the bonus points. :?

There is also a very nice Retro Game store right next door.

The Pinball Arcade is near the airport at 610 E. Tropicana, Las Vegas NV 89119.

Enjoy the pics! :D

There are also some rare Arcade Cabs, I spotted a SNES Cab! The oversized mounted SNES controls have really nice micro switches with the beautiful click. Unfortunately it was not turned on, maybe still needs repaired. There is a guy on the floor wearing a headlamp tweaking various tables. I played numerous Pinball tables. Some of the tables have duel flippers and one even has four flippers in a row at the bottom. There is even a table that relaunches the ball from the drop below the flipper, anyone remember those? For the Arcades I tried out my two favorites Defender and Robotron, also gave Wizard of Wor a go.

This Challenger table is interesting, a two player head to head. The play field will tilt after each ball drop favoring one player with gravity. My wife is pretty good at this one. 8)

There is also a Retro Store called A Gamers Paradise right next door. They just opened their second location there a couple of months ago. I'll post pics in the Retro Store Game Directory later. Pinball and buying Retro Video games, a great day!

Meanwhile some more pics. :D

I played one of these SNES cabinets in Houston (Joystix Amusements) and, when you first look at the machine, it's like, "these controls are ridiculously oversized; this will probably feel wonky." But then, you play it, and they feel really good. In the end, the oversized controls make sense because they're like industrial strength, high grade hardware to withstand the rigors of arcade use.
