Which 8-track player brands are best.

Post by ATARI800XLfan »

I am into classic sound formats and my parents recently decided it would be funny to buy me some classic 8-tracks including the best of the Eagles a few rolling stones and Jefferson Starship. So I have decided to actually listen to them. I have checked on ebay for players but was wondering which brands are the best for the money and if anyone has one they would sell. I am currently looking for something simple like this, something with just the left and right 2 channel outputs that could be hooked up to a simple cheap soundesign receiver/radio/casette. Here is a ebay listing to give you and idea.

No clue. You'll need to worry about worn belts, like any kind of vintage tape player. Perhaps try to find out if one has readily available replacement belts available first? I'd also open up the unit and make sure the heads, capstan, and roller are all clean too.

OH man its been a looong time since I've fiddled with 8-tracks!

probably when I was 10

My dad had some Vicente Fernandez, Jorge Negrette and other Ranchera Music. I would hear them on those BIG old cabinet consoles! with the am/fm and record player.

Just be careful that the player you get is good, cause I remember that they were kinda sensitive and tend to not work right.

Also with 25+ years of age, 8-track players aren't like atari's

I believe its best to find one locally and test it there before you ship for something that may be broken.

but to each his own I guess

That's what I was thinking, the problem is trying to find one locally.

Gaaah I hated 8 tracks. The way the tape is spooled internally, the tape rubs against itself causing the jams and wear. I wouldn't buy a high dollar player, the tape will not sound that great. But interesting to get the old tapes to play. hitting the various tracks to jump in the middle of another song. :D

Woah, you guys have a lot more trouble with them then I do. My dad and I share a bunch of 8 tracks. I've had a couple have the shit beat out of them, and they still run fine. We use a no name player, it has nothing written on it, so I can't really say what it is, but it is a great player.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.
