So I'm a grad student at UCSC, and I left all my gaming buddies in LA when I moved. I have met some guys here, but most don't play video games of any kind. A meetup in September or October would probably work best for me, but if anyone who lives in Santa Cruz would like to meet before then send a message my way.
I'm interested in getting together to play console games, I haven't read a lot of the thread but it seems like a lot of the talk is based on arcade gaming? I'd be happy to meet up and play some multi player bomber man, mario kart (any system), finish a NES game. Anything NES and after I'm game. My dad brought home an old atari they gave him when we were kids, but I never quite understood the goals of many of those games. I don't mind current gen games either. I just bought tobal 2, would love to give that a try.
As far as arcade go, and I'm sure this has been mentioned, the Santa Cruz Boardwalk has a great collection, but it's definitely not a good place to go on a Saturday.. unless you love traffic, paying too much for parking, and crowds.
Also, maybe someday, I can bring some of you guys over to my place to play mame arcade! If I wasn't married I wouldn't care, but my wife would freak out if I brought random strangers.
Check out a video of when I was working on it last summer. I'm currently saving up to put a new computer. I'm also going to take out most of the console and pc games. I'm going to just focus on having one list of arcade games. Having all those consoles on there provided too many options! There were also too many things that could go wrong with so many emulators.
