And withholding a gaming experience based on where you live. Though I guess that's just how it works.

But it would be great if we could just talk about the game.

they don't. I could buy the Japanese FF Type-0 when it comes out and not be required to give info to play it. They require the info to register for use of their network. That's understandable in my book.

You should feel no qualms withholding information that they don't actually need.
I would feel no qualms about WITHOLDING. That would be giving NO ADDRESS.

We're talking about LYING and making up a fake address.

So I haven't played FF XIII yet, anyone know how this game will tie in with the story?

And for that matter how do you feel about a series of games within a series coming out like this? Is it ok to make us play 4-5 games to get the whole story in such a short amount of time? Especially when each game is 60-100 hours?

I wonder if this game is gonna come out in America? I heard it might not, but since it IS Final Fantasy it will probably do OK. I heard it was also shipping on two UMDs as well so that's neat. And if it does get released here, I hope its not a digital only thing. I don't have the space lol.

Agreed 100%. I mean, do you really feel bad about providing a fake address for demos? Heck, I made up one to get an EU account so I could LEGITIMATELY purchase a game from the EU PSN (Outrun Online HD).

well not REALLY... I can't play it without getting on JPN PSN.

Not sure either. I THINK that the character carry-over is minimal though. Different characters in same world, maybe?

I don't mind the series spin-off thing personally. In a sense a lot of the FF games really are stand-alone games with a similar title. Or a single story rather. In that sense, I don't mind having the option of a sequel if I particularly like one of the stories a lot and want to continue it.

I feel bad about knowingly making up fake personal information to register for an account. Yes. What if that address I make up belongs to someone? And they get on a mailing list or some shit? You know what I hate? Getting calls from bill collectors because people gave them fake numbers. I don't know. I just feel weird about the concept of fabricating personal info.

PS, I'm not saying I totally won't sign up. I'm just saying I feel a little weird. Nobody else though, huh?

Ahh, I see what's sticking you. Here's the thing, they don't actually check the address you give. As long as the postal code is a valid JP postal code then you're all set. So make up an OBVIOUSLY fake addres, like 1234 Poop Lane. That way no one will get hurt.

Well luckily the OP talked about the game, this definitely looks worth keeping an eye on actually. I might need be falling into the Sonic-esque cycle again though... so hopefully it is good!

couple of things.

After some soul searching I remembered that I absolutely love Japanese games, so I'm not even sure why I hadn't already setup a JPN account.

I realized that a JPN acct would be great on my PS3, but PSP's only allow one PSN acct per unit. Correct? So I still wouldn't be able to play this.

Or wait. Would I?

Could I download it via PS3 or perhaps my MediaGo software and then transfer it to my US PSP? Or are the downloaded demos still tied to an account? I feel like i've seen lots of websites that hosted all the various PSN demos. Did they have to scrub them from DRM or something?
