Super Ticked: I've got a stand up show in September and received the following rules:

1) Performer Eligibility: Each performer must be accompanied by 5 friends. That's a total of 6 people, including the performer. A performer will NOT be eligible to sign up for a time slot until all 6 people are accounted for, paid for, and in the building.

2) Vulgarity: You may use the "F" word in moderation. Use your best judgment here. The use of the "F" word can be very effective if used correctly. If we see a show as being too crude and vulgar, then the performer will receive a warning. If a second performance is also seen as too crude and vulgar, then a 8 week suspension will occur. This applies to all things seen as crude and vulgar, not just the "F" word. All decisions regarding vulgarity are based on our judgment. Once again, use your head.

3) Food and Drink: The Restaurant will be open for the duration of the night as well as a full bar. If possible, plan on eating dinner with us and enjoying a cocktail or 2. Once again, we must generate as much revenue for the Club owner as possible so that he will continue to open up his stage for our use. I cannot stress that enough. It is a simple business decision: if he is not making a profit he will discontinue the night.

1) So it's pay to play? How is that an open mic? Now this isn't uncommon for mixed open mics, but this is (at least they say they are) a comedy club. Rather it's like some lame Frat party where you have to bring two girls for every guy. I'm going to just ask people outside the club if they'll "be my friend".

2) I'm not that vulgar, and I don't curse often, but this is stupid. I'm beginning to wonder if this place is a comedy club or a church. How many Grandmothers will be attending this show? Not to worry, I'll use the word "fluck" instead. And whoever wrote these rules should play a game of hide-n-go-fluck-yourself. Flucking stupid.

3) You want me to bring 5 friends and eat your shitty food or you might close down? I'm shaking in my flucking boots. A better "simple business decision" would be to not make all comedians think you're a bunch of flucking slapnuts who have no interest on comedy whatsoever.

BUT! I am solutions oriented, so besides a typical 5 minute set I plan on addressing these issues on stage with vulgarity included. Jeez. NC is NOT the state for stand up comedians unless you want to tell redneck jokes.

good call. They want you and your five friends to buy dinner and two drinks, but you've got to "use your head" when it comes to cursing? What?

Yeah, it is dumb. Usually if you drink, and I do, it's either byob or free drinks from the bar for the performers. Now I haven't been to this club so I don't want to bash it too much, but it is so frustrating trying to find a decent comedy club in NC to perform where you don't have to pay to play.

And I don't want to be a jerk about it, but my set probably will probably be only about addressing the clubs moronic rules and regs. And if they kick me out for 8 weeks, they'll just be giving me more material to use at actual comedy clubs.

Sorry. This just really gets billy.

Not sure how long the video capture on an android phone lasts, but I do have some performances taped via Iphone (the audio sucks).

To me it says their open mics probably suck full hoover since they expect about $1K (dumb math) just from the door alone. That's ridiculous. $1K of pure profit (I'm sure drink and food sales cover overhead) just from the comics alone. I'm far from struggling, and the more friends the better for any comic, but most comics aren't going to a show like this just for laughs. These guys struggle and usually the clubs see them as a guest, not a customer.

Now this happens all over the place, but these rules just tick me off. If they had comedians people wanted to see, maybe they wouldn't have to price gouge so much. I'm just disappointed beyond belief with this. Bringing 5 friends isn't enough, the performer has to pay on an open mic? Not so open if you ask me.

Smile: Might finally have a job of some sort soon, went up with a friend to his staffing place and filled out an app, spoke to a recruiter that went really well, got an interview Monday. It's part time and only 16 hours, but it's a start and the pay is much better than most part time jobs. The recruiter said I could maybe eventually fill in other hours and it's a good way to get my foot it the door anyways.

Hope the interview goes well! It's for a security desk job. My friend says all he does is read comics, play his 3DS, etc... doesn't sound very taxing, lol. Who knows though.
