Well also, the DS emu for NES, GB, & Gen are pretty good for me (I'm just getting started tinkering with NitroGrafx now) so maybe I don't need a PSP if my main reason was for emulation. Might just get a Vita and get the PSP games from PSN instead. :?
FTR, the Genesis and PCE is TOTALLY fine. I'm picky when I say I notice any choppiness for the NES. Platformers and shoot 'em ups on the SNES are fine (haven't tried RPGs). It's mainly racing games so far that suck, and SNES games that use special chips.

Nitrografx on the DS does not run as well as the PCE emulators on the PSP, at least when I tried it a year ago. The PCE games ran ok on Nitrografx, but the sound was so off it drove me nuts.
I gotcha but I'm more on the side of not being okay with choppiness or having to eff with SNES setting for GFX or things like that.
Now if Gen games run full-screen (not like the DS issue, slide L or R) I'd be good. ;)

Picodrive runs full-screen. :) I haven't bothered with Gens yet, but might if racing games work (the only games I've had an issue with are racers).

The ONLY setting I've changed on the SNES emulator is setting the frame skip from the default of "3" to "0". That is it. It is extremely simple. It runs quite a lot of the games without issue. It really is worth it, and I find most games play better than on the DS.

My rating:
-NES: 4.5/5 (very minor frame skipping. Unnoticeable in most games. Otherwise flawless. I used NesterJ)

-Genesis: 4.75/5 (racing games have issues. Sega CD games worked fine. I used Picodrive.)

-PC Engine/TG16: 4.75/5 (Only had an issue with the background graphics on Air Zonk. No support for Super Grafx games. CD games work fine, but I haven't tried ACD games. I used PCE for PSP, but apparently HuGo works very well also.

-SNES: 3.5 (some games work flawlessly, others have framerate/graphical issues. Games that use a lot of effects (ie. mode 7-type games like F-Zero, Pilotwings, and games that need a special chip like MMX3) either are not playable, or have graphical issues that ruin the fun. I used SNES9X Euphoria. I gave it 3/5 because enough fun games (ie. shoot em ups and platformers) do seem to work totally fine.

You know, maybe I'm just an idiot, but it seems stupidly difficult to get PCE CD games running on an emulator.

I screwed around with a handful of the different ones available for pc, converting sound files among other things, and couldn't get anywhere with any of them. Magic Engine doesn't even recognize my drives for god's sake.

Moving on to the PSP, I got PSPHugo running successfully, which is great, but of the two games I tried, one works and has sound effects but no music (no surprise with the hoops you have to jump through to get music working, and the readme doesn't really address it), and the other constantly resets itself from the title screen. In the case of the latter, I don't know if its just a bad file or something, but its the only one available at all, so I'm kinda fucked on that either way. :?

What is it about PCE CD games that makes them so damn complicated compared to anything else? Particularly the difficulties with music tracks. Its nuts. Sega CD games aren't like this.

Pain in the ass. I'll try PCE for PSP soon (I actually found some good clear instructions for it), but if that doesn't work out I'll just have to wait until I get the money to buy a Duo.

Breetai, did you have any issues getting PCE for PSP to work?

My psp is unable to run it at all. Attempting to start it just makes the system return to the menu with an error code that it can't run the game. I've tried a few different versions with no change. I'm really not sure what to try next.

Edit: Nevermind. I've got it running with Hugo. I've only tried one game so far, and there is music, but no sound effects. I'll try another later on, as I've had enough for now. At least its playable. :D

Now I wanna get that GBA emulator on my PSP again. I deleted it because of the Welcome Back program. It was pretty good in my opinion.

the GBA emulator is pretty good. Not great. But pretty damn good.

Master Boy is amazing though. A single emulator for GB, GBC, SMS and Game Gear. Full featured options, filters, etc and (knock on wood) never hit a problem game.

Not gonna read through 6 pages on this topic, but the PSP emulators are superior to DS emulators in almost every case. Maybe not to ones on the computer, but that's not really a fair comparison is it?

None whatsoever.

However, I am using a PSP-3000, where I need to use the sort of custom firmware (CFW) where it goes back to the original firmware if I completely shut the power off (the CFW is just stored in the RAM). I've heard that some homebrew only works using this CFW, while some other homebrew only works on the older style. Maybe PCE for PSP only works with the newer style?

Sorry for being so vague, but I don't remember the names of things and I don't feel like looking them up.
