Facebook is a private thing for me, just between friends.
It really makes me shudder when you see some FB whore that has 1000+ friends. Totally kills the point of social networking IMO.

I also only use Facebook for people I actually know/have met. That being said, a surprising number of my FB friends are people I knew in middle and high school, but wasn't close friends with. If I do interact with people on there, it's only with a handful of my FB friends, who are family and close friends in real life.

I don't use Facebook or My Space or anything similar. I am an old school email/forum/chat program kind of person.

Re: In Facebook or Myspace or any other thingy..
I have never had a facebook or myspace account. One of my friends asked me yesterday when I'm going to join the real world and sign up for facebook.
Damn, I thought I was in the real world.
I'm not a Luddite; I just find facebook very creepy. Why would you post pictures of yourself for the entire world to see? I'm not so sure I want anyone to be able to find me on facebook.
I've heard good things about Google+ privacy features. I'm considering giving that a try. Would anyone hear be so kind as to send me an invitation?
edit: got one. thanks, o.pwuaioc

Re: In Facebook or Myspace or any other thingy..
I have a myspace page that I haven't bothered with for a year or two, though I believe it still exists. When everyone jumped over to Facebook, I stopped and didn't join. It has had positive and negative consequences. On myspace, I mindlessly clicked around a lot checking for comments to what I had posted and looking at friend updates. When I think back on that time, there are very few memorable moments that stand out about all the time I spent on myspace. It didn't generate enough positive stimulating interaction to warrant the amount of time I spent on it. In this sense, I'm happy to be done with it and this is what keeps me from joining Facebook or Google+.
On the downside though, my relationship with my friends has suffered a bit. This is mostly from people moving away and them not wanting to keep up via any means other than facebook, which I understand because it is an economical way to keep up with friends in other states/countries. I also have troubles with friends in my region though because things get planned and shared on Facebook and I miss out. I haven't been terribly interested in going out much lately, so I still prefer not to facebook, but it definitely has changed the social landscape.
On a gaming related note, if you want to play a really fascinating visual novel that deals (in part) with how social networking changes how we relate to one another, I highly recommend Don't Take It Personally, Babe, It Just Ain't Your Story.

I have a whopping 18 friends on facebook. I had about 100 in the first week, then just get getting rid of people one by one. I axed close friends and relatives who never provided any content worth reading.
