Nope, the oXbox was the spiritual successor...

JSRF, Sega GT 2002, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie, Crazy Taxi 3, HOTD 3, Otogi 1 and 2...

It was pretty obvious back then...
yr argument at least makes sense to me. Yeah. I don't see 360 as having much in common with DC, though.
Microsoft liked to market it as such, as the Dreamcast had, and still has, one of the most passionate, active followings you will ever see for a console. In reality, Microsoft's arrival on the market was one of the bigger factors that led Sega leaving the hardware game. I can understand the approach econonically, but it stunk of something a bit too
cynical.

One should also note that Microsoft hired the previously Sega executive Peter Moore (currently at EA, I believe). So I don't think the approach was cynical as it may have seemed to you - it seems somewhat natural to me and Moore was probably partly responsible for some of those sequels that are Xbox exclusive, as he probably still had relatively strong ties with SEGA.

This is the main reason the Xbox and Dreamcast have the same controller layout, triggers face buttons colored in the Windows colors, and also Microsoft had a hand in the Dreamcast Windows CE operating system as well.

Also, Peeter Moore is the reason Shenmue 2 never came to the US on Dreamcast. He wanted it for his new system the Xbox.
Moore has been proud of the success of the Dreamcast game console and the satisfaction that owners still express today; including fans of the Shenmue game franchise, which Moore describes as the most vocal fan base during his career at Sega. Moore disclosed to GamingSteve.com that at a security checkpoint at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, a TSA security agent said "I don't need to see your passport. You're the asshole that gave away Shenmue to Xbox."[5] However, Moore has admitted to being responsible for the discontinuation of the Dreamcast.
That bastard took the innovations that the Dreamcast pioneered and killed it off when it still had people in USA, Europe AND Japan that wanted to keep supporting it! He killed it too early, but I am glad some if it still lives on in the 360, some of it at least.

Like I posted before, look at this link, the Xbox is the Dreamcast 1.5, the 360 is the Dreamcast 2.0 if you ask me.

A very prestigious gaming site even said so. No delusions here. ;)

Actually, if you notice, the front of the system says Compatible with Windows CE. Not that it contains or runs on it. Few (maybe homebrew and post-mortem?) retail DC games used CE. Sega Rally 2 apparently did, but the CE loads from the disc, it isn't built into the system.

I'm pretty stoked for Hypertension if it ever gets released... Though Gun-Lord and Sturmwind round out the top 3. And there was this one BoR TC game called Age of Beast or something like that that seemed like it was going to be really good, haven't really heard much about it in a while though.

That it was even designed with Windows in mind at all was startling to me at the time.
