Just a question. We have all heard of Hoarding Disorder and Stuff Attachment disorders but it is possible for the opposite to be a disorder?
Despite getting rid of loads off stuff and freeing up room I find myself wanting to get rid of more and more items. Mostly games but it could just be a mood thing or a growing up thing, either way it strikes me that there is no point owning something and not playing it for a long time, you may as well get rid of it(I love paper mario 2 but haven't played it since completing it 5 years ago).
It just strikes odd to me because I just keep getting rid of more stuff all the time. Maybe it is a good thing, it is said that the more you have the less satisfied you become.

I buy and sell in pretty equal amounts. But I do waste money because I buy things that I never end up using sometimes.

yeah. I sort of feel like my collection hovers around the same size all the time. Probably because I only have so much shelf-space in our apartment. So I'll get to a point where I feel buried and start to get rid of things I don't ever play to make room for new stuff.ZenErik wrote:I buy and sell in pretty equal amounts.

I think for it to be a disorder, much like hoarding, you'd need to be compulsive about it. There are plenty of advocates for minimalist living where it's a conscious decision, but I wouldn't think of it the same thing as compulsive purging (or whatever it's called).
I moved often while growing up, so I got used to trimming down possessions - however, small, relatively expensive things like games don't tend to be at the top of my list when doing so. Worst case I can put stuff in a box/closet instead of on a shelf.

What you're talking about is minimalism, and many people take it a wee bit too far.
But I very much doubt there is a disorder of not having things. Simply because we as a species are programmed to be materialistic and to desire great posessions. But I can't be sure.

This sounds less like a disorder and more like a philosophy...

A disorder would be if they are compulsively doing it.MrPopo wrote:Can't it be both?prfsnl_gmr wrote:This sounds less like a disorder and more like a philosophy...

Example: I am highly paranoid. I isolate myself from society. I don't like medicines or foods that affect my mental stability. I also am weary of eating food I don't grow from my own garden. This does not make me Straight Edge, but my behavior can be classified as such.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.

In order for anything to be classified as a disorder, it must impede on your daily life. Psychology is subjective unless the disorder has a clear biological basis(downs syndrome).
Also... pakopako- none of those things you mentioned have to do with straight edge
