As for the item, no its not necessary to finish the game. It has a very cool function, but its also a major magic drain, so the utility is pretty small.
Edit: I made a mistake in the last paragraph, so I removed it. Anyway, if you're interested in finding the item, its extremely helpful to use the magic cape, so its a good thing you found that. Beyond that, all I'll say is that if you go hunting for it, keep a supply of potions handy.
All the times I've 100%ed LttP on SNES I can't recall having ever bought a single potion from the witch lol
Right now I'm playing Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. It's the first castlevania game I've ever played. I really like it. I'll have to get some other castlevania games.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.
Back to Romance of the Three Kingdoms X, I am playing as a created officer "Sima Yan" who is a real character and was the emperor of the Jin Dynasty when all of China was united under Jin. I didn't like the actual character they created of him because he was so weak when I felt he should have been more powerful because he was the one that unified all of China.
Beat the 6th Dark World temple in the swamp in Link to the Past. The cane that makes blocks is pretty cool. Only one more temple remains: Turtle Rock. So is that the last one or is there Gannon's temple or something after I get all the crystal things? (Forgot what those things are called )

I need to start Muchi Muchi Pork tonight, finally!
Making good progress in FFV, as much as I love FFIV (and definitely do think it has the better story/characters) and enjoyed FFII, FFV just might be the best FF experience of the year for me. I'm already 10 hours into it and it's felt like nothing, so it's not a drag at all. I'm finally loving the job system and overall the game is just pretty addicting and flexible with a lot of open freedom and such. Really enjoying it this time around and I'm definitely going to finish it this time!
