That or he's saying there are bone fragments but you don't have to worry about them... which would still be wrong.MrPopo wrote:You're presenting conflicting information.

Link #1 in this last batch is trying to sell a brand of "natural" pet products--the same conflict of interest cited by raw feeding enthusiasts against pro-kibble vets.
Link #2 is part of the same anti-scientific web community you posted links to before. Similar to the above, they get most of their information from people who are selling expensive books.
I think one of my favorite quotes is this one about a cat's need for high taurine content:
I'll ask again. My cat, and the cats and dogs of my veterinarian friend I mentioned awhile back, and the cats and dogs of other people I know who have been educated on carefully selecting quality processed pet foods have NONE of the problems raw feeders insist are the result of a kibble diet. They are also NOT at risk for any of the possible safety concerns with a raw diet that even your favored website concedes just might possibly exist!
What then, answer me, is supposed to be the benefit of switching to raw foods? How is putting our pets at risk better than learning to read labels? Hint: if your answer involves the word "nature" you lose your argument. Actual benefits only.

I think one of my favorite quotes is this one about a cat's need for high taurine content:
There is no "natural" situation in which beef heart would be part of the diet of Felis catus. So much for the natural approach. Also, so much for "this is what they're naturally supposed to eat" which is the entire foundation of everything the raw feeding advocates on these sites are trying to claim. Thing is, using "older is better" or "natural is better" are truisms with no sound basis in fact or serious research. Even the Australian vet that founded the raw feeding movement warned against placing too much emphasis on what's "natural" which he said could be dangerous. His reasons were based merely on personal and anecdotal observation, with (he's admitted) no actual research on his part. Just testimonials, subjective observation--and possibly a desire to sell books. People with no veterinary training have taken the "natural" angle he warned against and run with it, with even less basis than the original suggestion.rawfed.com wrote:The excellent news is that taurine is found in virtually all meats, especially beef heart.

Yes, quality processed food is better than real meat, cause we all know processed food is better...
Your cat is still young. We'll see how good she does in 10 years. It's like young people. They can stuff themselves with junk for years and still be relatively healthy. Some things take years to show their negative impact on the body...
But please continue giving them processed food. Afteral, the animals in the wild look much sicker than their domesticated counterparts. Ever seen an overweight leopard?... Yup, in the zoo...
No mention of the word 'nature' you say?... Actual benefits you say?...
How about: Because real meat worked for millions of friggin' years.
Humans, the most unnatural and arrogant species on the planet...

So then, no logic, reasoning, or evidence at all then. Just "nature is better, humans automatically fuck stuff up every time." No sir, sorry.
Standing around screaming "nature, nature, nature!" is no better than some opposing idiot standing around shouting "progress, progress, progress!" They're both artificial concepts (see what I did there) that sound nice, but don't actually mean anything specific when scrutinized.
The dinosaurs did great for millions of years. I guess humans fucked that up too.

Yes, you're right. They died because they ate fresh meat.flamepanther wrote:The dinosaurs did great for millions of years. I guess humans fucked that up too.
