installing xp

im trying to install xp on my laptop, it currently has vista on it. when i try to install xp it says there are no hardrives dected to install xp. What do i do?

doesnt say anything about not being able to detect the harddrive.

seriously, there's is a driver on vista that doesn't allow windows xp to register any hardrives. there is a solution to solve this problem. if you havent figured it out yet just pm me and i'll help you out.

Say what? The situation here is most likely that his laptop hard drive is recognized as a SATA drive, which XP discs can never detect. The solution is to just insert the SATA drivers into the XP disc, as a floppy drive is not available.

What are you talking about?

Or use the BIOS to switch the SATA drives to PATA mode. That usually works well, too.

....Oh my god. Awesome. My laptop's BIOS does have an option similar to that.

SATA Mode: AHCI or IDE

That's probably what it does. Wish I realized that before. Do you think it limits the speed at all by downgrading to IDE? This is only a 5400RPM drive, so I doubt it even comes close to IDE's speed limit anyway.
