The best part is that any system that outputs RGB will benefit from it, not just your AES. I might loan mine out to you but I'll have to see if kool_kitty is interested first (I'm loaning him my 14" Toshiba CRT).
True, either way the AES has to be modded

not necessarily, they output RGB standard, just some models better than others. Check your serial number against this list;

basically if your serial no is above 40,000, then you'll probably want it modded to clean up the RGB a bit before converting to component. If it were me, I'd just s-video it and call it a day, but I understand how important an AES can be to ones collection :)

I can do it for 100$ labour, and you pay for the parts and shipping. Neobitz should do the job. Just shoot me a pm if you're interested.

That's old school 15khz RGB for scart tv's in Japan/Europe. For virtually any application in the United States, It has to be up-scaled with an XRGB or similar to work with a 31khz VGA monitor, or the signal has to be transcoded into component. I've heard that transcoding it to component can result in something like 240p which most TV's wouldn't support anyway. A Japanese scart cable and an XRGB2 would be the way to go IMO, but it's quite pricey. Quite frankly, the S-video mod looks pretty damn good and is so much cheaper that I personally don't see the point. Again, just my opinion. I'm sure the component looks amazing if done correctly.

And yes, there is a stereo mod. You can grab it from the headphones jack or tap the PCB before or after the volume control. Depends if you want the volume control to adjust your sound levels or not.

wouldn't that be about the same as getting the actual mod done? he is looking at about $100 plus parts and shipping.

where the hell can you buy an XRGB2?

Looking at the prices, don't even mod this AES, get a XRGB2 for under $200 and find the cables you need, that way you can get RGB out of every system without modding.
