I've been on a PC that can't run any post 2003 games at a good speed for years. Recently, I bought a new laptop that's an i5 and started searching for games to play.
Now I don't have a current gen console so I haven't tried any of the indie games in the past decade almost and have only played the mainstream current gen games. I'm amazed at the quality of the 2d platformers PC has. I always thought it was only in Wii where the 2d platformer was coming back.
Now I've tried Trine, Meatboy, Braid and DeathSpank (ok this one isn't 2d, but it's got an old school feel). The visual and the "puzzles" and entertainment value here is on par with klonoa 2 (which is one of my favorite 2d platformer with "current gen graphics"). And there's still so much I haven't played yet (wish list: capsized, shank, rocket knight "remake").
2d platformers are back!
I'm amazed how many good games PC has

I recommend you also try VVVVVV, Cave Story, and Runman: Race Around The World. (all linked)

If you love 2D platformers, you really need to check out the Commander Keen games, Secret Agent, and the first two Duke Nukem games (the ones made by ID Games).
