Bought an Atari CX2600A lot online recently and got it today. Seller said it didn't work:
I was able to get it to turn on and display, but the only game it responds to controls in was Space Invaders, and then only to move back and forth, there was no reaction from the game when you were hit, etc. I don't know much about these things, so if you think you can fix it, be my guest.
Came with Paddle controllers, two joysticks, AC adapter, and these games:
Pac-Man
Frogger
Donkey Kong
Human Cannonball
Combat
Warlords
Space Invaders

edit: he threw in an NES pad too, so there's that...

I paid $25 shipped and kind of regretted it because I doubted I could get it working. I just tested it out and it works just fine, so I don't know what problem the seller was having. The system's in NICE shape, too. I didn't even have to wipe it down to make it presentable. One joystick sucks, and the other is ok but I hate the atari joysticks anyway so I'll just use a genesis pad. I don't know if I'd call it a great deal since I might not even get $25 of enjoyment out of it, but at least I have a 2600 now, and for a cheaper price than ebay.

Now to dig out my other set of paddle controllers and get some 4 player cash games of Warlords going...

Some games go directly into the 'screen saver' mode where the colors cycle and you have to hit reset to actually start a game. I think Space Invaders is one that does that. :)

Another day and another UN Squadron, progressively more expensive. Yesterday $1 today $2. Also found an NES for $2 and a few cents for some clear plastic Nintendo cases.

Oh and a commodore 64 cassette player attachment complete in box for $1.

Not bad today, hoping for some better finds tomorrow. :D

Once you get the proper bit, ($5 online - search for gamebit,) you can swap the yellowing backs of SNES carts with cleaner, grey pieces. Hunt down and have some cheap sports carts on hand for this reason! Be careful, though - every cart had different serial numbers on the back sticker, so just know that collectors will know if the cart's back has been replaced or not..

Thanks! Ya I totally understand so really its kind of catch 22. Its more or less for my own personal collection. I havent purchased the game yet, I just saw that they have a copy at this pawn shop for 5 bucks and I have it on a 24 hr hold. I wanted to see if I could switch it out just to make it look more appealing in my stacks of loose snes games. I think just the cart goes for 20 plus and I havent ever had a chance to actually play super metroid. I loved the original for the nes.

I think you'd have to be pretty hard core collector to know if a serial number on it had been swapped for another. Personally all I care about is if that label is in nice shape or shredded. 8)

Swap the back, don't worry about it. The tool is worth the investment, it opens up just about any nintendo cartridge (GBA uses tri-wing). You'll use it a lot if you're getting in to collecting.

haha ya your right you would have to be quite extreme to go to that extent. I've been collecting for ages off and on but just now recently I have gotten back into it to the full tilt. I looked that tool up and it is one handy dandy mo fo. I am gonna order one tommorow. Thanks again!

My mom picked up a boxed (though rather dirty and busted up) SMS with 2 controllers and the light gun all for the pricey sum of $7 at some garage sale. To bad the pack in game wasn't included and the AV cable was missing, though I'm lucky enough to have a Model 1 AV cable layin around.

You're sure the game isn't built in?...

I suppose you're talking about Alex Kidd?...
