Did you read that in the book of Zebediah, 21:32?o.pwuaioc wrote:I'm pretty sure always following the letter of the law is plain ol' bad theology. You might want to check into that more if you're serious about your religious beliefs.

1 Peter 2:13 "Submit yourself to every ordinance of man . . . to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors."o.pwuaioc wrote: I'm pretty sure always following the letter of the law is plain ol' bad theology. You might want to check into that more if you're serious about your religious beliefs.
Matthew 22:21 "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's."
Romans 13:1-7 “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
This is of course unless that law contradicts God's higher law:
Acts 5:27-29 “Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 'We gave you strict orders not to teach in this Name,' he said. 'Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood.' Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than men!'
Now you can interpret that however you please. But as far as I'm concerned, I interpret that pretty clearly. I'm gonna follow the law to the best of my ability, as long as it doesn't contradict what the Bible has already said.

So, given everything that's been said in this topic about the legalities of both tengen games and Nintendo's behavior during that era, what's the verdict?
To play or not to play?

Especially if you can track down Tengen Tetris! Buy the expensive recalled used game cart or get it as a bootleg since Nintendo killed it! A shame, the unique simultaneous gameplay lost.

Doom, I think O.P. used the phrase "letter of the law" fairly deliberately. The implied suggestion is that that we are better citizens of our government (and possibly our faith) when we follow the spirit of the law as it was intended, as opposed to the letter of the law as it happens to appear on paper. That's a huge debate in both civics and religion, with significant weight on either side in both arenas. However, there is pretty compelling evidence that Jesus favored the "spirit of the law" at least when it comes to religion.

Matthew Chapter 12, verses 1-8:Limewater wrote:Such as?flamepanther wrote:However, there is pretty compelling evidence that Jesus favored the "spirit of the law" at least when it comes to religion.
1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw [it], they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is [one] greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what [this] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Play. There is nothing illegal about buying and playing them. The only questionable legality was on the part of the developers/distributors.CFFJR wrote:...what's the verdict?

While I agree with you, I don't think we've actually heard Doom's decision. Did I miss it?Breetai wrote: Play. There is nothing illegal about buying and playing them. The only questionable legality was on the part of the developers/distributors.
Believe me, I don't have any qualms about this issue myself. I'm just curious what Doom ultimately decided for himself.
If he said it already, then I'm blind.
