Best TV for previous gen gaming

Post by DomitorInvictus »

Hello there, I am currently looking for a TV that would be ideal to play last generation games (PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, etc...) as well as older systems like Nintendo 64. I want to get the most out of last generation games from a CRT TV, since almost all of them look like crap when played on an HDTV (in my experience).

I've been looking at the Sony Trinitron family of TVs, but I don't really know which one would be perfect for me. And no, I do not plan on playing light gun games so flat displays are fine.

Any suggestions?

Everyone here seems to think those Sony Wega's are the best, so I'd get one of those. If you are looking for a small TV, RCA Truflat's are pretty good too.

I have an RCA Truflat, I like it, but for games like Shadow of the Colossus, it just doesn't cut it.

The other option is to get an X-RGB 3, which does an amazing job of upscaling with only a frame of lag.

True, but where would I buy one of these? I tried Amazon Japan, but when I converted the price it came out to 370 USD, even without the shipping. It seems to me it would be easier to just buy a CRT, plus I am not too knowledgeable on all of the technical things.

really, any CRT with at least an s-video input should do you quite well. Just poke your head around in pawn shops, you're likely to find something cheap.

Ideally, find something with component inputs that supports 480p. You don't need an HD CRT for last gen games. They're heavy as hell anyhow.

EDIT: I've tried looking EVERYWHERE for a Sony Trinitron WEGA, and all of the ones being sold are local pickup only, and you've guessed it, they are not in my area. What am I to do? Are there any upscalers that are relatively cheap?
