I'm fine with being culturally brainwashed that bugs are gross. Although, I think I could eat scorpion and the silkworm grubs.
I could convince myself scorpions are like lobster or shellfish. Looks like you could just get rid of the exoskeleton and eat the meat inside. Everything else.....
Who was qualified to call these "delicious" or "delicacies"? I mean, lobsters, pigs, and cows don't look delicious, but they are. Maybe I just need to try more bugs. I've had chocolate covered ants, and they sucked; milk duds taste way better.
I keep meaning to take a net out and catch a bunch of grasshoppers to dip in chocolate. All the good prairie land is underwater this year though because of the Missouri flooding. Seems like a good way to spend an afternoon, and potentially delicious too.
I also enjoy foraging for wild plants. You'd be surprised at how many common plants make good eating. Just driving along the highway around here I can pick out 8 or 9 different species of wild vegetables. Even just taking a stroll I can usually find something to nibble on, whether it's a red clover blossom or sumac fruits.

Chick of the woods! I don't personally go foraging for it, but I have friends that go out after rain storms.
Oh yes, mushroom foraging is great too. Unfortunately there's not a lot of great forest around here in Nebraska. I do hear of people finding morels from time to time, but I've yet to find a good hunting ground.
We do get lots of Coprinus spp. around here. But some of them contain disulfiram, which is counterindicated with alcohol. Kind of takes the fun out of a wild mushroom dish when you can't have a beer with it.
