Video Game Rarity Survey

Post by jjgames »

I'm doing some research into what factors people use when they determine "Is a game rare or not". Things like number of copies in existence, how often it comes up for sale, the price, etc.

Before I had asked everyone about the idea in general but now I have a survey to actually get some hard data. You can take this survey and then I'll compile the data to see which factors gamers actually use when they decide what "rare" means.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5ZSF7NQ

I'll post the results as soon as I have them. Thanks

I took your survey. And BTW, VGPC is a very useful site for me.

The only things that seemed odd to me on that are the facts that the number sold and number being sold now were often higher than # of copies in existence.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

Number Sold During Last Year: 19
Average Sales Price: $10,000

I assume it could be something where people buy it and resell it as they see it sells for an even higher price. I could see this happening with maybe 20 - 30 copies but only 5? Some one would be bound to keep it at some point.

Yeah. Looking at that now. What?
(I'm judging first by "Existence", then by "Available", finally adjusting by turnaround -- logically price should be affect by the previous three, but logic is probably not common perception.)

^ If I was a collector of games that are rare because they did not sell well, that would be me biggest concern.
