What should I collect next? Sega Saturn or Super Nintendo?

I'm near ending my collecting days for my Neo Geo MVS and have gotten practically all the games I wanted on that system, except for Samurai Shodown 5 Special and Shock Troopers, and have been wondering what to collect next as a hobby. I loved collecting for the MVS but at times it really got expensive and in my opinion many of the "defining" titles were just plan crap *cough* World Heroes *cough* Art of Fighting *cough*. I've been looking into either the Super Nintendo or Sega Saturn since they both seem very well liked systems, good library, and have caught my interest in collecting at some point during my collecting time. The only problem is I don't know the prices of the games, and how much shovelware are there on each systems. Of course I plan to play these games too so the more great games the better. So I'm looking for some help to which system fits these criteria better:

-Games are not insanely expensive. One or two expensive games are okay because that is the case with every system but not every game. I defined expensive as >$30 per game. For the SNES I plan to collect cart only and the Saturn to collect complete only.

-I enjoy Fighters, Shmups, and JRPGS. JRPGS and shmups being tied as my favorites.

-How expensive are the import games? Such as on the Super Famicom I'm interested in the Fire Emblem series but also I like the Saturns Shmups.

Just look ever top 10 lists and see which console has more games you are interested in, I love my Sega Saturn to bits, I love how 'Sega' all the games feel, but overall the SNES has so many more quality titles.

- Saturn for the Fighters and Shmups
- SNES for the JRPGS

Easy answer, get both!

snes for rpgs and platformers.
Both consoles are great and have their own strong points, but sorry i just love carts compared to disc

Depends on what you've gone for in the past. Personally, I grew up on Nintendo and Sony, but have been getting major kicks outta discovering other systems that I could never afford, or even heard of, as a kid. I'd go with a Saturn for that reason.

The only thing I'm worried about with the Saturn is the ridiculous prices the shmups command. I'm not really sure what shmups were released in the US but from the Japanese releases, they were mad expensives.

Saturn collecting is a big investment. Save Neo Geo and Saturn collecting for when you're ready to spend the big bucks

SNES, its FAR better than Saturn, Saturn seems more of a Novelty than SNES.

also i might add, if you are in your mid 20's and had a Saturn at launch, YOU ARE A SPOILED LIL BISH! that shit was expensive!

I feel like I definitely can't rightfully vote. The SNES is and probably will always be my favorite console, but I can also acknowledge the greatness of the Saturn, it's just a beast I still haven't really dove into. As others have said though if you want to be legit and authentic, collecting for the Saturn can be pretty pricey, you're going to be spending way more than $30 for most shmups and such.

But yeah, in general the Saturn sounds like it's got some great fighters, RPG's, hands down the best shmup library ever, etc.

I guess that's a con for you on the SNES though, since you're a fan of shmups. Can't say it's that strong in that area, it's got some good ones here and there, but the Genesis definitely beats it out in that department, and then the Saturn trumps the Genesis itself.

So I'm neutral I guess, just to be fair. I would say the SNES, but I'm no pro on the Saturn yet or anything.
