Thoughts on the Game(s)

So it is pretty much the same as 7 on the DS, just with stretched graphics, you can put it to the original aspect, but it has borders on the bottom and sides of the display.

If you have played it on the DS, you can easily skip this, I was really hoping that it would be corrected for the aspect of the PSP screen, rather than just stretching.

Hmm, I guess I'll take it off my want list then. Is it no different than 7 at all?

"A revised version of the game, titled Metal Slug XX (メタルスラッグ XX?), also known as Metal Slug Double X, was released on December 23, 2009 in Japan and North America on February 23, 2010 by Atlus for the PlayStation Portable. This version of the game features additional content, including co-op multiplayer and downloadable content."

5/19 Portal 2 - Single Player (PS3)
5/22 Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished (PSP)

So far I've loved every Quantic Dream game. This one is no exception, I love their style of interactive gaming, I'd really like to try this with the Move controller. Maybe someday.

I just finished Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, and... wow. Just... wow. So amazing... I'm speechless. I can give this game nothing less than my highest recommendations with a perfect score of 10/10. This is the finest puzzle game I have ever played, and this is coming from me right after finishing Catherine. The story, music, voice acting, ingenious and brain-busting puzzles, and the stunningly beautiful art and animation make it feel like a game that is too big to be presented on the modest DS hardware, but in that way, it also utilizes the hardware so perfectly as to make it a better game because of it. I went into the Professor Layton series a while back expecting a simple but clever and challenging puzzle game, as was portrayed in the series' many commercials. While I certainly did get that, I more importantly got a remarkable set of stories to accompany it. These games are sheer brilliance, and Unwound Future is a glorious crescendo to the series thus far.

The local Co-Op I will most likely never use to be honest, the DLC, from what I know is just the ability to download and play as Leona Heidern from KOF, and she is all ready on the disc, you are just 'unlocking her', if you have CFW you can play as her using a program apparently.

As I said the game is pretty close to identical to Metal Slug 7 and does not warrent a second purchase, my thoughts.

Crash Bandicoot was a fun and short little game. It was also kinda easy. I was on 80+ lives on the second last level, although I lost like 20 on that one level embarrassingly enough. I didn't come close to getting all the secret gems and whatnot though, so theres more to tempt me back another time. Overall a solid if unremarkable little platformer thats dated OK.

Advance Wars 2 was a fun game which was also my 7th game of 10 for the Snickerd00dle Summer Challenge. I wrote my thoughts in that thread. Needless to say though, I enjoyed it well enough.

Next Up: Secret of Mana, Mario Galaxy 2, Other stuff.

8/2 Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing (Wii)

KoF '99 isn't a bad game...but there is just something about it that feels weak. The roster is kinda lame compared to KoF '98. The story is boring and clunky compared to KoF '97. The striker system feels like a tacked on nod to the X-Men vs Capcom series. The last boss is pretty much instantly forgettable compared to Rugal, Orochi, or Iori.

It's just kind of there, you know?

This Dreamcast port is pretty nicely polished. I like the extra strikers and the 3D intros into the 2D stages are VERY well done. It's obvious that top notch people were brought in to develop the port - it's just too bad they didn't have much to work with in the first place.

I finally finished all the Grandprix Races on Sonic and Sega All Star Racing today as well. To be honest - Sega has never really been my go-to for racing games. They really knocked it out of the park with this one, though. I prefer it to Mario Kart Wii, all said and done. The music has got to be the best part - Sonic R tunes on every other track. I just wish they'd scoured more of their catalog for material. Way too many Sonic characters and not enough Sega All Stars.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

01/15/11 Tatsunoko VS. Capcom - Wii
01/22/11 TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist - Genesis
01/30/11 A Boy and His Blob - Wii
02/01/11 Batman: The Brave and the Bold - Wii
02/26/11 Pier Solar - Genesis

05/07/11 Portal - PC
05/21/11 Portal 2 (Single Player) - PC
07/16/11 Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters - Wii
08/01/11 Capcom Fighting Evolution - PS2 NEW
08/02/11 Metroid: Other M - Wii NEW

I beat Capcom FE with a couple different characters and unlocked the bosses, so I will consider it beaten. I liked the game, but like most fighting games I don't put the time into it to learn new characters' moves so I mainly used Ryu.

As for Metroid: Other M, I started the game on release day and stopped about 6 hours into it. For some reason last week I picked it up again and Sunday night beat the main game and tonight I finished the epilogue. I did not get 100% of the items, nor have I in any of the Metroid games, but I did beat the game and have to say I had fun. The game itself is fun, fun enough to outweigh the cut scenes.
